While Netflix lovers may be happy to have a huge library of modern-day movies, viewing some of the old school Horror movies wouldn’t be a bad idea.

Some of these classics from the 70s, 80s, and 90s could give some of the modern-day horror movies a run for their money.

Have a look at theses spine chilling movies on Netflix:

The Shining

If names like Stephen King and Stanley Kubrick are attached to the title, you know it’s going to be something extremely special.

The Shining

A writer (Jack Nicholson) heads to a closed-off hotel with his family to get off his writer’s block, what he does not know is that he is possessed by a sinister existence. His child, however, has psychic abilities and can see the entities roaming around in the hotel.

The movie raises every hair on the viewer’s body when we see Jack possessed and running after his family to kill them.

The movie toys well with the viewer’s imagination, especially considering the scenes where Jack being a father and a husband runs after his family with an axe.

The Silence of the Lambs

An evergreen classic, the silence of the lambs is based upon a serial killer who skins women. While on the outside he is a well-respected professor.

The Silence of the Lambs

A young F.B.I agent Foster investigates the case by interviewing another serial killer called the “Buffalo Bill” to understand and recognize this one. Anthony Hopkins beautifully plays his role, not giving the slightest hint of what he really is behind the scenes.

Night of the Living Dead (1968)

Night of the Living Dead is a classic example of how to get a movie right with a small budget and a not so A+ cast. Yes it is truly spawned the zombie culture in movies (even though there were movies based on zombies before it).

Night of the Living Dead

George Romero deservedly got all the credit and applause for opening up the zombie subgenre in horror movies and that too on his debut. From The Walking Dead to Dawn of Dead, mostly all zombie films have some elements imitated from the 1968 classic.

My favorite scene: The entire scene where all the zombies approach the humans inspired many other zombie movies and shows.

The movie is not available in every region therefore, you must connect to a VPN server in Albania, Serbia, Argentina, Mexico, Brazil.

The Exorcist (1973)

The Exorcist is arguably the most terrifying movie you’ll come across on Netflix these days. Exorcist isn’t your everyday fast-paced splatter horror movie. The movie is slow but it all builds up to a great crescendo thanks to a solid plot. The movie has a purpose which is revealed to the viewers step by step and along with each step the fear increases.

The Exorcist

For a 12-year-old, Linda Blair did one remarkable job as Regan. The transition from an innocent little girl to a wickedly possessed one was displayed magnificently by her. The best part about the movie is that it respected the subject matter throughout the movie and didn’t go overboard.

My favorite scene: That spider-walk scene is still fresh in my memory.

The movie isn’t available everywhere therefore, you must connect to a VPN server in Belgium, Israel, Italy, Netherlands, South Korea, Switzerland.

Hellraiser (1987)

This Clive Barker movie is totally sadistic. It is totally demented and it is only for the adults and that too for those who could be courageous enough to watch it. Hellraiser takes the emotions of love and pain to a whole new dimension. Pinhead is the scariest monster a person would ever see in a movie and would send shivers down the spines of viewers.

Hellraiser

This is one of those movies I wouldn’t watch again. I would say that people with faint hearts should probably not see it. Some would say that the novella “The Hellbound Heart” on which the R-rated movie was based was much better. And that movie didn’t bring in the same intensity and horror as the novella. But it was one of those movies which truly defined the horror genre.

hellraiser

My favorite scene: Well I don’t want to recall the scary moments of the movie but I’d show you what my reaction was whenever something scary came up in the movie.

The movie isn’t available for streaming anywhere therefore, you must connect to a VPN server in Japan

To sum it up

A bunch of horror movies with their digital effects and glossy looks can’t compete with the gritty and raw films of the times of yore. Just dare to watch some of these movies and you’d know for yourself. Oh, by the way, it would be better if you watch them with friends or at least with the lights on! for horror fans we also have a list of the best horror movies on Netflix.
