What is the Story of Upload?

Upload is a sci-fi comedy set in 2033 where humans have the capabilities to “upload” their life data. But the story centralizes around Nathan, a 27-year old computer coder, who meets a tragic car accident.

But that’s not the end, as his afterlife is programmed, owned, and operated by a tech giant called Horizen, created by Nathan’s tech support Nora.

This new take on the afterlife gives Nathan a chance to live more different than he did before. Although he had a girlfriend Ingrid from the past, he falls in love with his customer tech support Nora.

But is death really going to keep Ingrid and Nathan apart? And what kind of life will Nora and Nathan have to live?

What Happened at the end of Upload Season 1?

The season finale of Upload showed Nathan downgrading his life at Lakeview from paid to the free version. This would give him a “Two Gig” lifestyle which was occupied by a lower-tier class of residents living on 2 gigabytes of data per month.

In the real world, we see Nora escaping a murder attempt by the same people who got Nathan killed.  Nora confesses to Nathan her love, right before moving to a remote location to be away from technology and Nathan.

But the crazier twist comes when Ingrid, his living girlfriend, willingly dies and gets “uploaded.” Nathan had plans to break up with her, but it seems they’re both uploaded for life.

What is the Plot of Upload Season 2?

After the season 1 finale, a lot of strings have to be tied by Greg Daniels, the writer of the show. We hint that Nathan will firstly deal with Nora’s confession and try to deal with Ingrid who’s now uploaded to Lakeview.

Nathan’s afterlife just got complicated as he desired for the living, but is stuck with the dead. There are also some loose facts regarding Nathan’s death and his killers that we might get to see in season 2.

One perceived angle was that it was Ingrid’s father who had called out the hit on Nathan but the details are yet to be revealed. Before Nathan died, he was in the midst of democratizing the “Upload” technology.

Nathan’s last project would’ve allowed him to make the upload technology affordable.  But in season 1, we saw the technology launch which could hurt Horizen’s business.

Also, in the season finale, we saw Nathan downgraded to a free version life, living on 2 gigabytes a month, so we’ll see what a freemium life he lives.
