The DVD rental service that changed the entire landscape of how movies were to be watched, never stops innovating. Recently the interactive titles were introduced, which made every viewer experience a different and unique storyline based on the choices they make.

Now Netflix is testing a new feature that allows viewers to speed up boring parts of an episode, while the feature is in testing phases only, it’s been asked for by many of the users. This new feature lets you speed up the video by maximum 1.5x and slow it down to a minimum 0.5x.

As of now, the feature is being tested on its mobile only as mentioned on the company’s blog:

“We’re always experimenting with new ways to help members use Netflix. This is a mobile only test and gives people the ability to vary the speed at which they watch on phones or tablets – choosing from normal to slower (0.5X or 0.75X) or faster (1.25X and 1.5X). It’s a feature that has long been available on DVD players – and has been frequently requested by our members.”

The feature will not only come in handy if you want to quickly binge on titles and finish seasons in less time and consume more content, but also if you want to slow down and listen to a dialogue or if the language is foreign and you need a little clarity in understanding.

Keela Robison, Vice President at Netflix mentions,

“We’ve been sensitive to creator concerns and haven’t included bigger screens, in particular TVs, in this test. We’ve also automatically corrected the pitch in the audio at faster and slower speeds. In addition, members must choose to vary the speed each time they watch something new – versus Netflix maintaining their settings based on their last choice.”

However she also stated,

“We have no plans to roll any of these tests out in the short term. And whether we introduce these features for everyone at some point will depend on the feedback we receive.”

So let’s see, when and if Netflix officially comes up with this new feature. It would be a great addition to the streaming service as YouTube has had it since a long time too which means that viewers actually need it sometimes. Netflix also has an several secret codes to access content genre which are not available easily.
