The Star Trek Timeline Explained In Order of Series

The Star Trek timeline began with a small dream that Gene Roddenberry had. His ambition was to offer the world a TV series that featured characters who showcased humanity and integrity. Years later, Star Trek has become one of the most popular franchises in today’s pop culture.

The franchise now has over 50 years of films and TV shows (exactly 13 films and 9 shows). Each show and movie has been written to perfect and of course, the franchise has had its fair share of writers, directors, and producers. Of course, with such a huge franchise, it’s easy to get confused and lost in the Star Trek timeline; however, we’ve handpicked all the shows and movies and tried our best to give you a proper overview of everything!

Star Trek: Series & Films

Let’s look at the timeline in detail.

Star Trek: The Original Series

Star Trek : the original series

It is one of the best science fiction movies set in the twenty-third century and centred on the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise, which represents the United Earth’s Federation of Planets, is on a five-year journey to discover new worlds, seek new life and societies, and fearlessly go where no one has gone before in the star trek timeline.

It premiered on C.B.S. in 1960. Admiral James Tiberius “Jim” Kirk is in charge of the Enterprise, attractive and outspoken (William Shatner). Chief Medical Officer Dr Leonard H. “Bones” McCoy is one of Kirk’s closest friends. Commander Spock, the ship’s half-human/half-Vulcan Science Officer and First/Executive Officer (i.e. second-in-command), is from Vulcan.

The series follows them as they come face to face with exotic alien cultures, both friendly and hostile, as they travel to and from the uncharted territory on their journey. This episode shows the Enterprise and her crew battling aliens, supercomputers, temporal paradoxes, crazed killers, and even Khan Noonien Singh.

Through the prism of the future, the series is notable for examining then-current hot themes such as sex and war and God, religion, politics, and racism, among other things, that contribute to our understanding of ourselves.

Characters and fans from all around the globe have become cult favorites of the 79-episode television series (eighty if one includes The Cage (1966), which ran from 1966 to 1969.

Star Trek: The Animated Series

Star Trek: The Animated Series

Attempts to rehire just a few cast members were also made as part of the other cost-cutting measures implemented. N.B.C. initially intended to employ five cast members: William Shatner, DeForest Kelley, Leonard Nimoy, James Doohan, and Majel Barrett, with James Doohan and Majel Barrett serving as Sulu and Uhura, respectively.

However, the network ultimately decided to hire just four cast members. Leonard Nimoy stood up for his fellow crew members by stating that he would not join the programme until all of the original cast members were brought back to perform their voices in the show.

A deal was subsequently made with everyone, except for Walter Koenig, who was hauled aboard the Enterprise. The animated programme also provided additional opportunities for foreign aliens to join the crew, which was a welcome addition.

M’Ress, played by Majel Barret, had been a Caitian technical officer who served as a communications stand-in for Uhurua on several occasions. Alex, who James Doohan portrayed, took up Chekov’s position at the navigation panel on a few occasions.

It’s the year 2304, Admiral James T. Kirk is a Starfleet Academy teacher who is beginning to feel his age; the idea of going on a two-week student tour aboard his ship, the U.S.S. Enterprise, now an instructional vessel, does nothing to help him feel any younger.

When Khan Noonien Singh, the famed conqueror from Earth’s late 20th century, reappears after years of exile, the training voyage becomes deadly serious. Khan subsequently reported that Ceti Alpha VI erupted, shifting the fifth planet’s orbit to create a haven similar to Mars.

A top-secret gadget with the capacity to create itself, Project Genesis lies at the heart of his plan to eradicate Kirk.

Peace with the Union is their sole option, which would end the 70-year battle. Because of their previous dealings with the Klingons, Captain James T. Kirk and the rest of the crew are enlisted to assist in the discussions.

Unfortunately, only one person can help Picard thwart Soran’s plan, and he’s been dead for 78 years now.

Star Trek: The Next Generation Series & Films

The Star Trek timeline Next Generation is a sci-fi television series set in the 24th century that follows Captain Jean-Luc Picard aboard the USS Enterprise.

This version of the legendary starship, which is significantly larger than the one piloted by James T. Kirk a century ago, has 1,012 men, women, and children on board, and it carries a larger crew complement as a result.

Men and women are more likely to volunteer for long-term exploration missions if they perceive their ship to be their home, according to Starfleet Command at the time. Picard’s crew may now enjoy a variety of leisure activities, “replicated” cuisine specialties to suit every palette, and quarters large enough to accommodate couples and children together, something they would have had to forego before.

It also has a children’s school as well as an adult-only bar where clients may relax while sipping synthetic alcohol or synthetic alcoholic cocktails. The ultimate purpose, which is no longer confined to five years, is nearly identical to Kirk’s: to search out new life and new cultures while boldly going into previously unknown territory.

Wrapping Up

It all started with a simple idea: a guy called Gene Roddenberry wanted to create a television program set in the future, with characters who would symbolize the best of humanity and who would take risks that no one had taken before.

As a result, the Star Trek timeline has now established itself as one of pop culture’s most lasting touchstones, always adapting to meet the needs of the times.

It is not a simple task to put together a logical chronology for a franchise that spans more than 50 years of films and television productions (9 series and 13 films, to be exact).

However, when you break that down, the Star Trek timeline does a fairly good job of holding together a story that has been developed by dozens of writers and filmmakers over many decades. This is particularly astounding given the amount of time travel included in the plot and the fact that certain dates are in contradiction.
