Captain America: Civil War (2016)
Spider-Man will make his return to the big screen in 2016 and join forces with Captain America! A groundbreaking deal was announced on February 9th when it was revealed that Spiderman would be appearing both in the Civil War (2016) movie released by Disney, as well as a new standalone film from Sony’s Marvel Studios production line.
The financial agreement was considerably simpler: each studio would fully finance and profit most of the profits from its properties, with Marvel Studios receiving 5% of Sony’s first-dollar gross on the new standalone Spider-Man movies. The $35 million annual payment Marvel pays Sony to keep the toy and merchandise earnings for Spider-Man at Marvel would be reduced if the new Marvel-produced Spider-Man film grossed more than $750 million (it did). Furthermore, while they profit from making a great Spider-Man movie, the two studios get to enjoy bringing the character greater popularity and worldwide recognition.
It stars Tom Holland as Peter Parker / Spider-Man, Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man), Chris Evans (Captain America), and Marisa Tomei (Aunt May).
Like Spider-Man, Captain America is one of the world’s most popular superheroes today, but it hasn’t always been that way. Because of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the Captain America series is now receiving the same amount of attention as Superman movies and the Iron Man series.
