Keanu Reeves Reacts to Rumors He’s Joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe

There’s speculation going on that Keanu Reeves may be jumping from virtual reality to Marvel’s universe. The superstar known for Matrix Resurrections and DC’s Constantine expressed his excitement saying it would “be an honor” to work for the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Several unverified rumors have linked Reeves to Marvel with roles in the upcoming film Moon Knight and Spiderman villain Kraven the Hunter in Spiderman Universe, made in collaboration with Sony. However, the John Wick star hasn’t been featured in 26 MCU films till now.

Although this isn’t the first instance that Reeves has been rumored to be in contention for a role in Marvel’s project.

In 2019, Feige revealed to ComicBook; the studio behind Avengers: Endgame and Spider-Man: No Way Home “for almost every film we make. I don’t know when, if, or ever he’ll join the MCU, but we very much want to figure out the right way to do it.”

Due to a film shooting scheduling conflict with John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, Reeves had no choice but to pass on playing the role of Kree warrior Yon-Rogg in Captain Marvel (2019). Jude Law was ultimately been cast for that particular role.

In 2019 while talking to BuzzFeed, Reeves also expressed his desire to play a member of the X-Men stating, “I don’t know, when I was a kid, I always wanted to play Wolverine.”

Later in a statement on SiriusXM, he confessed to being playing “Frank Miller’s Wolverine, for sure,” adding, “It’s too late. I’m all good with [not playing Wolverine] now.”

Reeves, 57, opened up to the possibility of featuring in an MCU movie while talking to Esquire. In an interview for the magazine’s cover that will be available on December 7, he stated:

“It would be an honor. Some really amazing directors and visionaries. They’re doing something no one’s ever really done. It’s special in that sense, in terms of the scale, the ambition, the production. So it’d be cool to be a part of that,” he said when asked if he’d consider working for Marvel.

He also talked about his upcoming film The Matrix Resurrections, which is set to release in theatres and on HBO Max on December 22.

The Matrix star has an illustrious 35-year career in Hollywood. He had featured in a total of 68 films ranging from romantic to action and sci-fi. Reeves also revealed the type of roles and storytelling he mostly likes. He stated, “There’s always a relationship—a drama, a circumstance—in storytelling. But for me, it’s cool when a work of art can entertain but also be inspirational or challenging or—I’m gonna bring up ye olde Bard—hold the mirror up. It’s much more rewarding because it means that you’re getting into it,”

Reeves has also been rumored to be in a relationship with his costar and good friend Sandra Bullock. While talking to Esquire, Sandra replied “Nope” to the question of whether the two have ever been more than friends. “But who knows? Keanu’s a guy who, I feel like, is friends with every woman he’s ever dated,” she added.

She further added, “I don’t think there’s anyone who has something horrible to say about him.” “So maybe we could have survived. I don’t know. But we didn’t have to survive anything. We just get to grow up together on parallel roads and tip our hats and meet for a dinner and try to work together. And the longer time goes on, the more in awe I am of the human being. Would I have been able to say that if he had dumped me and made me angry? Probably not.”

While on the other hand, Reeves also opened up about working with Sandra and the possibility of them reuniting on screen again. He stated, “I sure hope so. She’s such a wonderful artist and person. And, you know, I think we have good chemistry. And it would be really exciting and interesting to get the chance to perform with her again.”

Reeves also gave a little teaser about the opening scene of John Wick 4. He described, There’s a sequence—hopefully, knock on wood—in John Wick 4, the opening sequence. John Wick is back in the desert on a horse. I’m going to hopefully be able to fast-gallop and run.”

Carrie-Anne Moss, Neil Patrick Harris, Priyanka Chopra, Jessica Henwick, Jada Pinkett Smith, Jonathan Groff, and Yahya Abdul Mateen II are other stars featured in the movie.
