But after Disney confirmed to cast Halle Bailey as Ariel on social media, Massive chunk of fans start criticizing the role of Ariel since she is not white.
Halle Bailey is the Worst Choice for Live Action: #NotmyAriel
Here are the fans reactions on Disney official tweet confirming Halle Bailey has been cast in the upcoming live action re-imagining of “The little Mermaid”:
1. This person is looking for answer from Disney, like why they want to change the character appearance completely when it comes to “Ariel”:
Why things gotta change with Ariel??? pic.twitter.com/UU6PMyp624

2. While some fans who supported the Disney’s choice for Ariel character, they got replies that are full of racism:
Okay, but she isn’t white yet

100% agree with this. This whole “diversity” things with blacks and gays needs to stop. We know they exist, and we respect the hell out of them, but if we want to make them into characters, make them into new ones and respect what’s already been created.

#notmyariel I’ve been to Disney a infinite of times and never seen an Ariel looking like this, she is pale with red hair and green eyes for god sake where the casting crew high or something while casting her?! Like wat where they thinking!
— Lisa (@lisa_judo) July 3, 2019
Why??? I need somebody explain this decision; Ariel is red hair, green eyes and even in the leyends the mermaid was extremely white and blue or green eyes!!! Why is so necessary make this! Is annoying

It is not discrimination and do not start attacking me but Ariel is white skin and redhead she is black (with all respect) and although her hair is dyed it is not ariel
— Johan Templos Rodriguez (@JohanTemplosRod) July 3, 2019
I’m going to be honest with you @Disney. Ariel has red hair, not for being racist, but we all want someone completely similar to Ariel to make the live-action of The Little Mermaid. Halle Bailey can sing the songs in the movie, but don’t change our princess.
— Frankie Feliciano (@FrankieFelicia5) July 3, 2019
Yeah. No.
Fuck that. You’re not getting my money or my attention. The Little Mermaid is a Danish fairytale. I expect, at the very least, the lead actress to look the part.I feel sorry for Halle, for the backlash she will receive because of this. It isn’t her fault.

It’s not about racism, I’m sure that Halle has talent and a gorgeous voice, but if you are going to film a remake from the clasics disney movies, please cast who seems really like the original Ariel, now I’m wondering if pocahontas or Tiana should be white.

Even when I posted this official announcement by Disney on one of the Facebook page, the comments are not so different from Twitter.
3. However, some fans clearly said “It’s not about racism” but they want to see the white girl with red head since Ariel is not black in past movies:
However, production is anticipated to begin in early 2020.
Additional announcements regarding The Little Mermaid are expected in the coming weeks.
“…some fans clearly said “It’s not about racism” but they want to see the white girl with red head…”
Gotcha; never talk about white caracteristics cause that’s so offensive and racist.
Really subjective and RACIST your conclusion. We just expected to watch a movie with the character as we knew her since all life. And then again that’s just the beginnin’ from the new ideology bullshit era.
