A New Star Trek Movie Pitched To Paramount By ‘Wrath Of Khan’ Director

Star trek new movie

Lately, after a long period of no news from the Star Trek movie scene, it was finally revealed that Paramount had chosen to work on a brand new script, written by Kalinda Vazquez. Vazquez also wrote the script for Discovery and has a hold on the entire Star Trek universe.

What is to become of the movie still remains vague as the film has been put on a halt ever since Emma Watts was introduced in to overlook other feature films that the studio wanted, this was around middle of 2020, when Emma put a pause on projects related to Star Trek.

However, TrekMovie fans can be excited as another exclusive project was pitched to Watts by someone who knows the ins and outs of StarTrek. Yes, a very important part of the StarTrek franchise, writer/director Nicholas Meyer has pitched in an idea for a new StarTrek Movie.

Meyer was hired by Paramount back in 1982 as a writer/director to help the company take the StarTrek franchise ahead and increase the return the company was getting from its movies.

Despite Meyer having no idea about StarTrek, he just went on to draft a script on his own and direct the film “Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan”. Without having much deep knowledge about the StarTrek world, Meyers went on to create what is considered the best movie of the franchise!

The StarTrek franchise has been struggling to get back on its feet ever since the film StarTrek Beyond didn’t perform well in 2016. Paramount wants to get the franchise get going and keep the buzz alive, just like the way everybody was bonkers about the movie in the 80’s.

In a recent interview with TrekMovie, Meyer told that he has “more than an idea” for the way Paramount could take StarTrek upwards and bring back its former glory and bring the franchise on the big screen.

After the immense success of Star Trek II, Meyer continued to write uo the script for Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home and even going as far as writing and directing Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country.

Somehow it became a legend that the even number movies of StarTrek perform well and are typically the one’s worth to watch.

In 2016 Meyers joined StarTrek again and developed a mini “Wrath of Khan” TV-series and served as a consultant to the producer for StarTrek’s initial season of Discovery. The prequel mini-series tells the tale of Meyer returned to Star Trek for the first season of StarTrek: Discovery, where he also created a TV miniseries on The Wrath of Khan that would tell the story of Khan Noonien Singh’s time in exile on Ceti Alpha V.

Meyer told that he has made a new Trek pitch, and as per him, the pitch has been there since the last year. For now it looks that Watts is carrying on the concept with Kalinda Vazquez now, he has also been working with his long time StarTrek partner working with Steven-Charles Jaffe. According to Meyer, this pitch was in the last year. As of now, he has not heard back from Paramount but has not given up hope in the idea.

For now, it appears that Emma Watts is moving forward with the new idea from Kalinda Vazquez. However, that doesn’t indicate that the streaming company, Paramount will only explore a single Star Trek concept. According to reports getting the franchise, its old attraction and excitement is a priority for Watts. As only 3 years ago, Watt’s senior, Paramount CEO Jim Gianopulos, was showing off that the studio had two Star Trek films in production simultaneously, however, it has now become an industry norm.
