Billie Eilish took a step forward to fight against the state’s abortion legislation. Gov. Greg Abbott signed a six-week abortion ban into law on September 1, which took effect immediately.

During the event, the “Everything I Wanted”, she spoke out against Texas’ abortion laws and climate change doubters, calling them “losers”. The singer-songwriter was speaking on the stage. Moreover, she threatened abortion rights prompted women across the country to rally.

Since her debut in 2019, with her first album, When We All Fall Asleep Where Do We Go, Eilish performed on Saturday, 2nd Oct. During the performance, she spoke to the crowd and denounced the state’s abortion restrictions, which went into effect on September 1. The 19-year-old is also due to release her first album later this year.

She revealed she considered cancelling the event due to the state’s stance on abortion. Billie Eilish spoke about the controversial new law in Texas that prohibits abortions after a heartbeat is found.

The rules, which were signed by Gov. Greg Abbott, make it illegal to abort a foetus if a foetal heartbeat can be detected, among other restrictions. It also empowers individual citizens to sue abortion providers and anybody who they believe assisted them in getting an abortion.

“I’m sick and tired of old men,” she said. “Shut the f*** up about our bodies.”

According to reports, Eilish went on to say that she almost didn’t go to the festival because of the laws.

“When they made that shit a law, I almost didn’t want to do the show, because I wanted to punish this fucking place for allowing that to happen here,” She stated according to the news.

Later, Eilish reportedly pointed her middle finger in the air and said, “My body, my fucking choice.”

She previously criticised Texas’ abortion legislation in September, saying that it made her “sick how many men say nothing when it comes to women’s rights.”

She stated that she’s also been a vocal champion for body positivity and has been open about her own body image struggles.

“I mean, we only need bodies to eat and walk around and poop. We only need them to survive,” Eilish told The Guardian. “It’s ridiculous that anybody even cares about bodies at all. Like, why? Why do we care? You know, when you really think about it?”

After this incident of threats to abortion rights prompted women across the country to rally, other celebrities like Top Chef stars Padma Lakshmi, Gail Simmons, and Jenifer Lawrance also took part in protests.
