Netflix Revealed the Weekly Top 10 List: ‘Bridgerton’ Season 2 Ratings are Record-Breaking

Netflix Bridgerton S2- ranked top

Season 2 of Bridgerton, the Regency period romance drama has been on its way to getting record-breaking views on Netflix. The announcement was made by the streaming service officials on Tuesday that the series’ second season has been streamed and caught the eye of more viewers in comparison to any other English language show that is streaming on Netflix in just one week. Hence, Squid Game was still top of that record when it was at its peak as Bridgerton got views even less than half of the count that Squid Game had.

Netflix made the announcement via a tweet on their Twitter handle regarding the Season 2 of “Bridgerton” being a new show for having record most views in a week among other English TV series on Netflix, according to the new official weekly Top 10 list showing on the streaming service.

Although Squid Game still carries the record for the most-viewed Netflix show overall in general over a seven-day window, having amassed 571.76 million hours viewed, Bridgerton Season 2 recorded 251.74 million hours viewed for its first full week on the streaming platform that spanned from March 28, 2022, to April 3, 2022. Before this, Inventing Anna held the record for most-watched English-language TV show across one week with 196 million hours viewed.

Tailing Bridgerton Season 2 on the Top 10 list was Bridgerton Season 1, which was the second most viewed English-language TV series on Netflix last week, having 53 million hours viewed. Is It Cake?, a new competition TV show, came in third place.

Bridgerton Season 2 chronicles the tale of Viscount Anthony Bridgerton (played by Jonathan Bailey) and his pursuit of true love. But desire, duty, and scandal run into each other as Anthony decides to tie the knot, only to meet his match in the stubborn elder sister of his intended bride. The former, Kate Sharma (played by Simone Ashley), believes that Anthony only wants a spouse to fulfill his duty and doesn’t believe in the unwavering love that her younger sister Edwina (played by Charithra Chandran) truly merits. Still, Kate plainly has an attraction toward Anthony (and vice-versa).

Bridgerton is a drama based on a novel series written by Julia Quinn. The series portrays the scenes of the Regency era by showing the match-makings of elite class marriages in London. Widely popular for its miscellaneous cast and the spicy sex scenes, Bridgerton season 1 was extremely hit after its premiere in December 2020.

The story of the series season 1 showed the steamy hot love story between the leading lady Daphne Bridgerton (played by Phoebe Dynevor) and the Duke of Hastings, Simon Bassett (played by Regé-Jean Page). Meanwhile, the second season is all about the match-making of Daphne’s big brother Anthony Bridgerton (played by Jonathan Bailey) with Edwina Sharma (played by Charithra Chandran) and his romance and love interest with her sister Kate (played by Simone Ashley).

It is confirmed that the Netflix show Bridgerton has been renewed for another two seasons even though the series is based on the books but the producer Shonda Rhimes says the series “not necessarily” will be following the storytelling told in the order of the books. Simone Ashley has confirmed that she and Jonathan Bailey will be seen in the series season 3, unlike Regé-Jean Page, who did not make an appearance in the second season.

Bridgerton, a period drama that depicts a 19th Century Regency era, returned with its second season on Netflix on March 25, 2022. It continued from where Season 1 left the audience with all the glamor and extravaganza with a fresh tale of romance. Just like Season 1, Bridgerton’s Second Season seems to have caught the eye of audiences once more and that’s evident from the current Netflix “most-viewed” rankings.
