Disney Attacks Scarlett Johansson’s Character Upon Asking for Previously Agreed Paycheck

Scarlett Johansson vs disney

Scarlett Johansson’s manager has called Disney’s portrayal of Scarlett “an attack on the actress’s character”. Scarlett has worked with Marvel for more than a decade and was given the opportunity to star in the upcoming solo movie.

The plans to release the Black Widow kept on getting delayed due to Covid-19, the movie made $215 million with 60 million adding on from the Disney+ streaming platform. While fans have loved the movie, it has been found that not everyone is happy — especially Scarlett and her manager.

The star has sued Disney due to the fact that Scarlett’s Black Window mandates an exclusive theatrical run and that the limited box office performance will mean that the star will be losing around $50 million in earnings.

Disney has not settled the dispute and, instead has handed her over a $20 million dollar cheque, saying that it was “sad and distressing” for her to demand so much during the aftermath of Covid-19.

Scarlett’s manager stated,

“I want to address the Walt Disney Company’s statement that was issued in response to the lawsuit filed against them yesterday by our client Scarlett Johansson. They have shamelessly and falsely accused Ms. Johansson of being insensitive to the global COVID pandemic, in an attempt to make her appear to be someone they and I know she isn’t.

Scarlett has been Disney’s partner on nine movies, which have earned Disney and its shareholders billions. The company included her salary in their press statement in an attempt to weaponize her success as an artist and businesswoman, as if that were something she should be ashamed of. Scarlett is extremely proud of the work that she and all of the actors, writers, directors, producers, and the Marvel creative team have been a part of for well over a decade.

This suit was filed as a result of Disney’s decision to knowingly violate Scarlett’s contract. They have very deliberately moved the revenue stream and profits to the Disney+ side of the company, leaving artistic and financial partners out of their new equation. That’s it, pure and simple.

Disney’s direct attack on her character and all else they implied is beneath the company that many of us in the creative community have worked with successfully for decades.”

After Disney’s harsh and instant statement, Scarlett’s manager has responded in the same strong manner in her defense. As per Scarlett, Disney breached the contract and she will continue to fight for her fair share.

Needless to say, the fallout of Black Widow’s suit will have great repercussions for Disney as well. There are reports that Emma Stone is also doing the same with Emily Blunt. As for now, Scarlett’s story is still growing and we don’t really know yet where it will land.
