Neill Blomkamp has finally revealed that a sequel to the epic film District9, finally is in the making. Back in 2017 on a community forum, the director stated that he wanted to go return to that world and tell the tale this time with Wikus and Christopher.
Blomkamp stated at that time that,
The issue right now is that I have many other projects and ideas that I also want to work on and complete… and most importantly, the exact right REASON to make District 10 needs be very clear. The first film was based so explicitly on real themes and topics from South Africa that effected me greatly growing up there, that we need to make sure the next film does not forget that.
However, it wasn’t the first incident when Blomkamp hinted or teased about a District9 sequel. A Twitter fan wrote to Blomkamp to make a Starship Troopers movie, and he replied with a simple “ok”.
