Ginny & Georgia Season 2 Reigns Supreme on Nielsen Streaming Top 10

1. Ginny & Georgia Season 2 Reigns Supreme on Nielsen Streaming Top 1

Streaming has a new king now! For the week of January 2-8, 2023, the top spot on Nielsen’s Streaming Top 10 went to “Ginny & Georgia,” a coming-of-age dramedy about a teen girl and her unconventional mother. The show’s second season premiered for 2.5B minutes with 20 episodes, and it has been lauded for its sharp dialogue, interesting characters, and heartfelt plots. The latest Nielsen numbers confirm that “Ginny & Georgia” is a worldwide streaming success thanks to the show’s winning combination of humor and heart.

The show’s first season premiered on Netflix in February and March of 2021, and the numbers show that it has already surpassed its initial performance. Only one episode has aired in the series up to that point that lasted more than 1B minutes. It’s important to note that the series’ run length increased with the release of Season 2, although Nielsen doesn’t break down television shows by season.

Nielsen Streaming Top 10 was rounded off by Netflix’s heist thriller “Kaleidoscope,” which was seen for 1.6 billion minutes in its first full week of availability, just after “Ginny & Georgia.”

With just over 1 billion minutes watched, “Wednesday” climbed to the third spot on the chart and cemented its place as one of Netflix’s all-time biggest hits (behind only “Squid Game” and Season 4 of “Stranger Things”). The teen show inspired by “The Addams Family” has now hit a billion views for the seventh week. The preschool cartoon series “Cocomelon,” which regularly appears on the list and has 960 million minutes of viewing time from January 2-8, came in fourth.

With 935 million minutes seen in its second full week on Netflix, “Glass Onion,” the sequel to “Knives Out” by Rian Johnson, was the most-streamed movie of the week. Amazon Prime Video’s “Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan,” which was in the second full week of its third season’s availability, was narrowly defeated by it.

The last season of “The Walking Dead” saw an increase in viewership that propelled the show to the No. 7 slot on the ranking. With the release of the series’ eleventh and final season on Netflix on January 2, viewers tuned in for a total of 905 million minutes of zombie drama between January 2 and January 8. In November, the series’ run on AMC came to an end.

At the very bottom of the list, we have “Yellowstone,” which had 750 million minutes watched on Peacock after having its first billion-minute week the week before, “The Pale Blue Eye,” which had 729 million minutes watched in its second full week of availability on Netflix, and “Emily in Paris,” which had 727 million minutes watched in its third season’s second full week of availability.

The number of minutes spent watching on a computer or mobile device is not included in Nielsen’s streaming ratings, which only account for TV viewing. The ratings reflect how well a show does with U.S. viewers only. The best streaming movies and TV shows from January 2-8 are listed here:
