Britney Spears’ father, Jamie Spears, has moved to court in order to end the 13-year conservatorship of her daughter immediately. The latest development in the spat between Spears and her family was confirmed by Fox News.
Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Brenda Penny suspended the role of Jamie Spears as conservator of the singer’s estate in a crucial, dramatic court hearing. The decision came on September 29, 2021, after the iconic pop star made a public allegation of abuse against her father.
While announcing the decision, Judge Penny said: “I do believe that the suspension of James Spears as conservator … is in the best interest of the conservatee.” She further added: “This order shall be made in full force and effect.”
Now as per the latest development, Jamie, the handler of Spears’ estate and personal assets for the last 13 years filed a request in the court on Monday to put an end to the conservatorship arrangement immediately. As per the petition, Jamie pleaded with the court to sign off the petition on Tuesday, officially putting an end to the imminent final agreement in which he was previously of the view that he would step away as Britney’s conservator once a proper alternative has been set in place.
In new petition documents obtained by PEOPLE that were filed on November 1, 2021, Jamie’s attorney Alex Weingarten states that Jamie believes: “Britney’s recent testimony and requests to take personal control of her estate and affairs have made clear that continuing the Conservatorship is contrary to her desires.”
Weingarten further adds that Jamie’s request is purely “unconditional” and he “does not make this request subject to a demand for releases or compensation.”
Weingarten further reveals: “Jamie unconditionally loves and supports his daughter. Full stop. As he has done for her entire life, Jamie will do everything he can to protect and care for her.” He further adds “For the last 13 years, that included serving as her Conservator. Now, it means ending her Conservatorship.”
Spears’ camp on the contrary has consistently reiterated publicly that Jamie is seeking around $2 million as compensation, from which his attorneys and her former business manager Tri-Star are likely to be benefitted.
Britney’s next court hearing is scheduled on Nov. 12 and is expected to revolve around the possibility of terminating her conservatorship, which Britney, 39, also filed a petition to terminate in September.
However, according to court documents moved by Jamie Tuesday, he’s willing to part ways from the matter without any compensation whatsoever, his lawyers stated.
The filing states: “Jamie sees no reason why the Conservatorship should continue for any amount of time and asserts he has no interest in the Conservatorship continuing” it also states: “Regardless, Jamie does not seek to and will not serve as Conservator again. Jamie already petitioned this Court to terminate the Conservatorship and has offered to stipulate to its immediate termination without reservation or exception.”
The filing further reveals: “Accordingly, Jamie hereby affirms his request to terminate the Conservatorship and his willingness to stipulate to the same. To be clear, this request is not subject to any caveat. Jamie does not make this request subject to a demand for releases or compensation — it is unconditional.”
The petition papers further disclose that Jamie does not want any fuss as he seeks a smooth and transparent transition and will “hide nothing” from anyone eager to look into the back-end proceedings of the historical arrangement.
The pop diva had earlier requested that her father should be ousted over her claims that he mishandled her finances. Read more about the twists and turns that Britney’s case has taken since the start.
However, Jamie’s lawyers state in the filing: “Jamie has nothing to hide regarding his administration of Britney’s estate and will therefore hide nothing,”
The attorneys further add: “Indeed, Jamie believes that every aspect of the Conservatorship should be made available for public examination — not the targeted leaks and misinformation that have resulted in such tabloid fodder. Accordingly, Jamie affirms that he will unconditionally cooperate in transferring all files regarding the estate to Britney’s counsel without delay.”
Almost a couple of months ago Judge Brenda Penny suspended Jamie from the conservatorship that saw him holding a firm grip on the singer’s life for over a dozen years. The Singer thanked her fans and the #FreeBritney Movement after the removal of conservatorship.
Amid news circulating about Jamie’s decision to end the conservatorship, the pop star came to social media to share her feelings with the fans that she was happy and couldn’t wait to reintroduce herself to the public once again.
Spears shared a meme that reads “The most dangerous animal in the world is a smiling woman.” She further wrote the caption on the meme: “The moment I SMILE and I realize I haven’t in a very long time !!!! My mom gets so CONCERNED and says ‘You’re acting weird … what’s wrong with you ???”
“I say ‘Hi, my name is Britney Spears … nice to finally meet you !!!’” she continued before asking her fans to “forgive me in advance …. It’s been 13 years and I’m a little rusty.”
The pop icon regretted that while her personal life and career had been a “family business before … it’s no longer that anymore !!!!”
She conveyed: “I was BORN today cause I get to SMILE … so thank you for exiting out of my life and finally allowing me to live mine !!!!”
Spears also made a claim that it was Lynne Spears, her mother, who was the force behind her father to begin the conservatorship in the first place.
Britney stated: “Do I know how mean I sound ??? Yes … I 100 billion percent I do!!!!”
She also added: “My dad may have started the conservatorship 13 years ago … but what people don’t know is [sic] that my mom is the one who gave him the idea !!!!”
Spears fumed while stating: “I will never get those years back …. she secretly ruined my life … and yes I will call her and Lou Taylor out on it,”
“So take your whole ‘I have NO IDEA what’s going on’ attitude and go f— yourself !!!! You know exactly what you did … my dad is not smart enough to ever think of a conservatorship … but tonight I will smile knowing I have a new life ahead of me !!!!”
Brtiney Spears’ attorney and Lynne Spears refused to immediately respond to Fox News’ request for comment on the matter.
