Jenna Ortega Talks Past Connection to Lady Gaga, Hopes for Season 2 Collaboration

Wednesday

Jenna Ortega, the rising star of the hit Netflix series “Wednesday,” has revealed that she has a past connection to pop icon Lady Gaga and hopes the singer will join season 2 of the show.

Ortega gave an interview to Variety on the red carpet of the 2023 Golden Globes on Tuesday evening. In the interview, she discussed her surprise that Lady Gaga participated in the viral TikTok craze of people recreating Wednesday’s dance. During the interview, she said,

“I’m sure Netflix would love that. I think Mrs. Thornhill and Wednesday had this weird mentor relationship or kind of understood each other in a certain way, so, if Lady Gaga were to be a part, I think it would have to be two monsters that understand each other.”

Ortega said that other than that, there has been “no connection” between the two of them. Ortega said, “I have seen nothing and I know nothing. As the actor, you’re told what to do. I’m waiting on it! I think they’re just starting to get a writer’s room together so we’ll see.”

The song “Bloody Mary” by Lady Gaga just made its debut on the Billboard Hot 100 list, largely due to the surge in popularity caused by the Netflix original series “Wednesday.” After being paired with Lady Gaga’s “Bloody Mary,” a dance sequence that appeared in Episode 4 of “Wednesday” went viral on TikTok. The signature dance move of Ortega was recreated by millions of TikTok users, who then adapted it to the music of Gaga.

The Cramps’ song “Goo Goo Muck” plays in the background at the moment in the episode. Because of the surge in popularity that the TikTok craze brought to Lady Gaga’s “Bloody Mary,” the singer herself copied Ortega’s dance and posted it on the social media site.

“It’s really strange,” Ortega said about Gaga getting in on the “Wednesday” TikTok craze. “You know what’s funny? A long time ago, I worked with a hairdresser that worked with Gaga, and I had just seen Gaga in concert a few years before. [The hairdresser got] Gaga [to make] me a video saying she heard I was a fan. Gaga made me a sweet video. I doubt she remembers. But to see her do that now…it’s one of those moments you realize life changes really fast.”

The star of “Scream” said that although several dance routines had been meticulously scripted, others had been entirely improvised on the day of filming. “That was one of the scenes I stayed awake at night thinking about because I thought there was so much that I should have done and could have done,” she continued. “So the fact that anyone is showing appreciation and trying it themselves, it’s not fathomable to me.”

Ortega had said that she was experiencing COVID symptoms when the scene was being recorded. Ortega Said, “I felt like I’d been hit by a car and that a little goblin had been let loose in my throat and was scratching the walls of my esophagus. They were giving me medicine between takes.”

A “gag reel” as a blooper for the famous series has just been made available on social media. In it, viewers can see Ortega breaking character and smiling many times while dressed as Wednesday.
