Joker 2 Remains Unaffected Despite Gunn Taking Over as the New Head of DC Films

Joker-2-Not-Impacted-By-James-Gunn-Being-New-DC-Films-Head

As of October 26, It was revealed today that James Gunn and Peter Safran would serve as the new co-chairs and co-CEOs of the newly formed DC Studios. They will be introduced with not only a future that they will be in charge of shaping but also a multitude of projects that have already been in the works prior to the declaration of their new roles.

In these roles, they will be in charge of all of DC’s film, animation, and television projects. Nevertheless, there will be no effect on the development of Joker 2 as a result of this!

The first Joker film, which was released in October 2019 and detailed the history of the notorious DC villain, was called “The Original Joker.” The movie, which featured Joaquin Phoenix in the role of Arthur Fleck (the Joker), got the most Academy Award nominations for the next year’s ceremony, which took place in 2020. It also stood tall as the sixth-best-earning picture of 2019.

You may watch all of the DC movies in a sequence to obtain a better understanding of the events and characters’ parts in the movies, since the DC films are interlaced in chronological sequence.

It will be some time until we know how James Gunn and Peter Safran will impact the future of DC Studios. Meanwhile, it has been stated that Joker: Folie à Deux will continue to exist outside of any broader linked world that the two new co-CEOs would be directing.

The quest for the new CEO of DC Films has already been ongoing for some time. Since taking over as CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery in April 2022, David Zaslav has tried to shake up the DC property.

As a result of this, as well as the need to minimize expenses, numerous DC films and television projects have been delayed or canceled entirely. With Gunn and Safran at the helm of the new DC Studios, they will mainly focus on creative and commercial choices pertaining to DC films, television programs, and animation.

The Joker sequel is unaffected. Many DC pictures in different creative realms are in purgatory as Gunn and Safran restructure. Todd Phillips and Warners picture chiefs Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy will supervise Joker 2. Warner Bros. Discovery’s move won’t affect the highly anticipated picture.

Joker: Folie à Deux, starring Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga, will premiere on October 4, 2024. The article says this picture will “live outside of whatever cinematic world that Gunn and Safran will be putting up.”

Joker director Todd Phillips has claimed in the past that his movie is “not really tied to that DC Movie Universe, and it was actually purposely not,” so this shouldn’t come as much of a surprise to anybody. Before it was known that there would be a sequel, he was discussing the first picture as if it were a standalone movie; nevertheless, it looks that the choice to keep the two films apart will continue to be upheld.

Joker: Folie à Deux is scheduled to begin production in December of this year, thus most of the details of the film are still being kept secret. However, Lady Gaga will be joining the series as the character Harley Quinn, while other major talents like Brendan Gleeson (Harry Potter) and Harry Lawtey (Industry) have joined the project in undisclosed roles.

The tale has not yet been revealed, but judging by the very brief teaser trailer, it seems that Quinn, played by Gaga, and Joker, played by Phoenix, may be involved in a romantic relationship. Catherine Keener, Jacob Lofland, and Zazie Beetz, who is reprising her role as Sophie Dumond from the first iteration of The Joker, are among the actors included in the cast.

The whole action of the film will actually occur in Gotham, a fictitious version of New York City; the majority of the Joker sequel is scheduled to be shot on sound stages in Los Angeles. There have been a lot of theories that have been heavily speculated about the upcoming film, but none of them have been officially confirmed.

Some of these theories include whether the movie is a musical (and it will be, at the very least, genre-bending) or whether it will be reprising dumped DC films like Harley Quinn’s movie. Neither of these theories has been officially confirmed through a perspective shift.

Conclusively, Gunn will concentrate on the creative side of DC Studios, while Safran will manage the business and production sides of the company. Gunn will direct movies only for DC Entertainment going forward, while Safran will continue to serve in the role of producer.

This action was just another step toward fulfilling Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav’s idea of following a ten-year plan similar to what Disney and Marvel have done with Kevin Feige in the lead role. Zaslav’s idea was inspired by the work that Disney and Marvel have done over the past ten years.
