Netflix Shared the Teaser for Squid Games 2 and We Are Anticipating More Blood for Money This Time!

Squid game season is coming

It’s official: Squid Game, Netflix’s most popular series, has been renewed for a second season. The sequel was in the works, and Netflix executives as well as the creator, writer, director, and executive producer Hwang Dong-Hyuk also shared a note detailing which characters will return for season two.

“Red light… GREENLIGHT!” reads the message, which is accompanied by a quick animation of the massive animatronic doll that stars prominently in the “Squid Game” pilot.

Here’s the Tweet shared by Netflix:

Director Hwang also shared his statement that says, “It took 12 years to bring the first season of ‘Squid Game’ to life last year. But it took 12 days for ‘Squid Game’ to become the most popular Netflix series ever. ”

He further added, “As the writer, director and producer of ‘Squid Game,’ a huge shout out to fans around the world. Thank you for watching and loving our show.”

Hwang goes on to tease a bit of the story for the second season, indicating “Gi-hun returns. The front man returns.”

Hwang added, “The man in the suit ddakji might be back. You also will be introduced to Young-hee’s boyfriend, Cheol-su.”

Season one of Squid Game revolves around a challenge in which competitors, many of whom are deeply in debt, compete by playing children’s games in order to win a large cash reward. The winners go away with billions of dollars, while the losers are shot to death. Seong Gi-hun, played by Lee Jung-jae, a divorced father and gambling addict, also enters the competition to support his daughter.

The decision by Netflix to extend Squid Game for a second season was, of course, purely official. Season one is the most-watched Netflix series ever, with over 142 million viewers and 1.65 billion hours of screen time in the first month of release in September 2021.

After the phenomenal popularity of the Korean series on Netflix, a second season of “Squid Game” was almost a given conclusion.

Following Hwang’s hint at a second season in the weeks following the show’s success, Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos revealed in January that additional episodes and a new season were on the way. Hwang has subsequently hinted that a sequel may be in the works, suggesting that episodes will most likely premiere near the end of 2023 or the beginning of 2024.

Meanwhile, “Squid Game” has established itself as a critical and commercial success. After receiving a string of nominations at the Screen Actors Guild Awards, which included wins for Lee Jung-jae and HoYeon Jung in their respective gendered categories for outstanding performances in a drama series, Netflix is now running an FYC campaign during the Emmy season. The nominees will be revealed on July 12.

We are all eagerly waiting for the second season of Squid Games to hit the screens and are certain that it will receive the same critical acclaim as the first!
