P.G.A Cancels to Host 2022 Championship at Trump Golf Course

Jim Richerson, the P.G.A. of America president, said in a video statement, “It has become clear that conducting the P.G.A. Championship at Trump Bedminster would be detrimental to the P.G.A. of America brand, and would put at risk the P.G.A.’s ability to deliver our many programs, and sustain the longevity of our mission,” adding “It was a decision made to ensure that PGA of America and the PGA Professionals can continue to lead and grow our great game for decades to come.” as reported by CNN.

Furthermore, in a written statement, Richerson said, “The PGA of America Board of Directors voted tonight to exercise the right to terminate the agreement to play the 2022 PGA Championship at Trump Bedminster,” Richerson said in a written statement.

The P.G.A. of America, which holds the P.G.A. Championship—one of the world’s four prestigious major men’s golf championships—announced on Sunday night that it will no longer stage its featured event at the Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, N.J. It was due to take place there in May 2022.

Subsequently, The Trump Organization replied on Sunday, saying “We have had a beautiful partnership with the P.G.A. of America and are incredibly disappointed with their decision. This is a breach of a binding contract, and they have no right to terminate the agreement.”

P.G.A.’s decision came days after President Trump’s crowd converged on the Capitol, sweeping past law enforcement and rampaging through the Congress halls, killing five people, including the Capitol Police Officer. However, as of yet the new replacement course to host the tournament has not been announced.

The PGA of America is made up of nearly 29,000 golf professionals. The organization is responsible for hosting the annual golf tournament, the PGA Championship, one of four major championships held in professional golf.
