‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ Set to Bring All the Classic Villains Back Since 2002

Spider-Man brings back classic villains

“Spider-Man: No Way Home” will feature all the classic villains that we’ve known and loved since Spiderman 1 in 2002. The teaser for the film was recently released by Sony Pictures.

The film opens in cinemas on December 17. “They’re starting to come through, and I can’t stop them,” Benedict Cumberbatch says in the trailer.

“No Way Home” picks up the foes from the previous Marvel movies, in which Spider Tom Man’s Holland identity is revealed, as represented in the now-viral trailer with nearly 25 million views overnight.

Spider-Man: No Way Home” begins where “Men in Black” left off. Dr. Strange uses a spell similar to the neutralizer from “Men In Black” to make people forget who he is.

Unfortunately, a murderer’s row of rogues from previous Spider-Man films materialize as a result of a multiverse mistake, including Willem Dafoe’s scenery eating Green Goblin from “Spider-Man” and Alfred Molina’s Dr. Otto “Doc Ock” Octavius from “Spider-Man 2.”

Hello to bad guys from the previous Spider-Man franchise. It was officially announced that Spider-Man: No Way Home will feature Doc Ock, Green Goblin, Sandman, Electro, and The Lizard.

The first teaser trailer for Tom Holland’s new Spider-Man film offers us a sneak peek at the rogues’ gallery of baddies. The complete trailer slammed their presence home on Tuesday.

We got a look at all the aforementioned villains, but no Tobey Maguire or Andrew Garfield, the former Spider-Men who many assume will return after a multiverse-spanning plot.

“No Way Home” will star Tom Holland and Zendaya. Fans have been anticipating such a film because, in 2013, Sony revealed a Sinister Six team-up featuring Spider-Man’s biggest villains. However, the spinoff was placed on hold due to the low box office performance of the Garfield sequel. So perhaps now, there’s a sixth enemy who we didn’t see in the trailer.

Let’s take a look at the villains who will appear in the movie for sure and the ones we “think” might be seen in the upcoming Marvel movie.

1. Green Goblin

Green Goblin

Willem Dafoe’s Green Goblin first appeared in 2002’s Spider-Man; however, the trailer doesn’t show him without his helmet, but it’s plausible he’ll be in the film. The Green Goblin died at the end of that film but reappeared in the form of a ghost or memory throughout the rest of the trilogy. Now, he appears to be back, and some even say we’ll see multiple goblins.

2. Doctor Octopus

Doctor Octopus

Alfred Molina will reprise his role as Otto Octavius, who we saw in the 2003 Spider-Man 2 movie. After sacrificing himself to destroy his faulty nuclear experiment, he died. As some would argue, he lived as a villain and died as a hero. Peter Parker recognizes that he’s dealing with a different version. The film looks to be more friendly than straight-up villain vs. hero adversaries.

3. Sandman

Sandman

We definitely don’t actually see Thomas Hayden Church’s face, but we can spot the huge sandy giant in the trailers, and that confirms his presence. The actor who played Sandman survived 2007’s Spider-Man 3 after Peter forgives him.

4. The Lizard

The Lizard

In 2012, Rhys Ifans played The Lizard in The Amazing Spider-Man. He was a scientist who tried to transform all people into lizard hybrids but then was sentenced to prison. In the new film, his actions suggest he’s not fighting Tom Holland’s Spider.

5. Electro

Electro

Electro, played by Jamie Foxx, joined the cast in The Amazing Spider-Man 3. At the end of the 2014 film, Andrew Garfield’s Spidey overcomes Electro by overloading his body with energy. Foxx had all but confirmed his return until he deleted his early social media tweets about the film, but he will surely make an appearance in the movie.

6. Vulture/Rhino/Scorpion/Shocker?

Vulture,Rhino,Scorpion,Shocker

Paul Giamatti played the Rhino in 2014’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2. It’s unknown if he’ll reprise the role as Rhino for the next installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The plan was for Giamatti to reprise his role in The Amazing Spider-Man 3, but the sequel was canceled due to the mixed response to the Garfield sequel. Vulture (Michael Keaton), Shocker (Bokeem Woodbine), and Scorpion (Michael Mando) are all still alive and may round up the band. The Sinister Six would be complete if one of them returned.

Nearly Possible that Some of the Villains Will Meet their Demise in Secret

Nearly Possible that Some of the Villains Will Meet their Demise in Secret

Doctor Strange reveals in the teaser that all of the villains in the film will die fighting Spider-Man. In The Amazing Spider-Man, the Lizard survived his confrontation with the wall-crawler; however, it’s possible that they died off-screen while confronting their respective Spider-Men. After all these years, who knows what happened to them?

Spider-Man: No Way Home will be released in theatres on December 17th, 2021, and Tom Holland will reprise his role as Peter Parker along with Zendaya, Marisa Tomei, and Jacob Batalon as co-stars. Jon Watts is back in charge of the camera.

With that said, the new Spider-Man has definitely stirred up excitement for the fans, and it’ll be nothing short of amazing. So don’t forget to book your ticket beforehand; bookings start November 29th, 2021!
