According to newly released stats from Netflix, “The Adam Project” becomes one of their most-watched originals. Considering that Ryan Reynolds has the lead role, it shouldn’t come as a surprise, not to mention the positive reviews the feature got.

The movie climbed higher in Netflix’s rankings such that, on Tuesday, Netflix revealed that “The Adam Project” has the fourth-biggest debut in its history, amassing 233,150,000 views in the first 28 days.

This record was surpassed by only three Netflix features, one being Red Notice, which also stars Ryan Reynolds, and was viewed over 364 million times in its debut month.

This new sci-fi blockbuster gives Reynolds his third film in the top 10 most-watched Netflix Originals. On the top is Red Notice, fourth is The Adam Project, and on ninth is the Michael Bay-directed 6 Underground, making him the first-ever actor to secure three spots in the top 10.

The Adam Project had over 233 million viewers in its first month, making it the most popular English-language Netflix Original in the service’s history.

It is a futuristic sci-fi feature in which the titular character, Adam the pilot, played by Ryan Reynolds, goes back in time to meet his younger self, who is played by Walker Scobell.

Joining the cast are elite actors like Mark Ruffalo (Adam’s father), Jennifer Garner (Adam’s mother), Zoe Saldana (Adam’s wife), and Catherine Kenner (Adam’s boss). It is soon to be one of the best sci-fi movies Netflix has ever made. The feature overall gathered a huge fanbase that got emotional over the actor’s performance.

@LaughingEyes12 tweeted about the experience as they “cried over the movie and the healing that happens!”

The theme and plot of The Adam Project are mostly influenced by the 1980s films like E.T big adventures, and The Goonies, which make it suitable for all ages to stream and enjoy.

Ryan Reynolds told the Hollywood News Reporter, I loved that Netflix positioned The Adam Project like that. They love the movie the way we love the movie,”

He further added, “It’s been such a labor of love for myself and Shawn Levy from the jump. I’m grateful that Netflix has a commitment to making movies like this, original stories based on nothing more than an idea, and we get to bring them to life. Especially films with this tone that – and I say this in a good way – is a little bit old-fashioned with an ’80s wish-fulfillment, meaning something amazing or even supernatural happens to a kid but he’s home by dinner, and his parents have no clue. It’s a type of old-school, warm and nostalgic filmmaking that I love.”

The script for The Adam Project was originally written in 2012 and would have cast Tom Cruise as the lead. In 2020, the rights were bought by Netflix and they bought Shawn Levy, director of Free Guy, Cheaper by the Dozen, and Night at the Museum series, as the director and producer of the movie.

Because of Levy and Reynolds’s history, working in Free Guy, he became his first choice. The duo will also work together on Deadpool 3.  The Adam Project will continue to climb higher in the Netflix ranking as it is still a new release. By 29th March, it was already the seventh most-popular English-language movie.

With such commercial success and more views over the next few months, we might get the news of The Adam Project 2.

Netflix releases its streaming numbers for around 100 countries, using the same metric of total streaming that Nielsen does in the USA. The Adam Project may as well be one of the best sci-fi movies on Netflix, which is currently opening more opportunities for the Deadpool actor, Ryan Reynolds, and his crew in the Netflix world.
