The Wednesday Trailer from Netflix Is Truly Breathtaking

Netflix Wednesday trailer

The Addams Family has been entertaining audiences for over eighty years now. It was an invention of the American cartoonist Charles Addams. The family has been appearing in a series of 150 unrelated single-panel cartoons, and about half of them were published in the American weekly magazine “The New Yorker” over the course of 50 years, beginning in 1938

Later on, The Addams Family started to transform into other forms of media and viewers have seen The Addams Family in film, television, video games, comic comics, a musical, merchandise, comic strip, a 1960s sitcom, and a Tony-nominated musical.

Recently, Netflix released its official teaser of the forthcoming spin-off series “Wednesday,” based on one of the vital characters of the Addams Family. It is clearly seen in the trailer that the series will bring the ghoulish clan to life this fall.

Netflix describes the series as a sleuthing, supernaturally infused mystery charting Wednesday Addams’ years as a student at Nevermore Academy.

The teaser was officially shown on @wednesdayaddams Twitter account:

In the two minutes teaser, the raven-haired teen played by (Jenna Ortega) is shown trying to fit in at her new school, “Nevermore Academy”, the same school her parents attended. In the academy, she makes an effort to master her newly acquired psychic powers and solve a murder mystery connected to her family’s past. It can be clearly seen that a bullying incident with her brother Pugsley (Isaac Ordonez) prompted Wednesday to throw piranhas in the pool with the water polo team in it.

Before coming to the school her father Gomez (Luis Guzmán) and mother Morticia (Catherine Zeta-Jones) told Wednesday that Nevermore will turn out to be a “magical place,” for her. Wednesday is hoping that school will have a community of people who understand her, along with the possibility of making some good and real friends.

The moment the “Wednesday” teaser was shown it created the same hype when Netflix released a trailer for the highly anticipated “The Sandmanwhich was released in September 2021. Fans are seemingly waiting for the series to have a glance at the “Addams Family” in the modern era.

Inspired by her role, Jenna Ortega as “Wednesday Addams” also shared the deadly look on her @jennadaily_ Twitter account:

Ortega’s Wednesday describes Nevermore Academy in the trailer as, “Little did I know that I’d be stepping into a nightmare, full of mystery, mayhem, and murder,”  and shares her approval by further saying, “amid a confetti-filled montage (including some Easter eggs) that ends in blood. “I think I’m going to love it here.”

Fans have witnessed Addams Family appear in various forms since 1938 so it was confusing to them that “Wednesday” will be another series in the shape of a remake or reboot. Co-showrunner Miles Millar, who has previously worked on the series says it will not be a remake or reboot, but rather its “own thing,” that hopefully presents itself more like “an eight-hour Tim Burton movie,” in the famed filmmaker’s catalog.

Millar went on to explain, “It’s something that lives within the Venn diagram of what happened before, but it’s its own thing,” further saying, “It’s not trying to be the movies or the ’60s TV show. That was very important to us and very important to Tim.”

In the first-look interview with Vanity Fair for the new Netflix series, which is scheduled to premiere in late 2022, “Millar” and “Gough” talked about how the series fits into the Addams Family universe and how they were able to get “Burton” on board as both the director and executive producer.

Netflix has released the trailer and nearly all of the Addams family can be seen in the teaser, including the disembodied hand Thing, but a notable absence from the preview is Uncle Fester, who also does not appear in the show’s first-look photos. Co-showrunner Alfred Gough said he and Millar have “no comment on Uncle Fester,” with the writer telling fans to simply “watch the show.”

Cast members of the Addams Family include Catherine Zeta-Jones as Morticia, Luis Guzmán as Gomez, and Isaac Ordonez as Wednesday’s brother Pugsley. Victor Dorobantu plays the disembodied hand servant, Thing, while George Burcea plays his servant, Lurch. Gwendoline Christie, Jamie McShane, Percy Hynes White, Hunter Doohan, Emma Myers, Joy Sunday, Naomi J Ogawa, Moosa Mostafa, Georgie Farmer, and Riki Lindhome also star in different roles. Christina Ricci, who successfully played the iconic role of Wednesday in the ’90s film series, will make a cameo or special appearance as Marilyn Thornhill.

MGM Television creates “Wednesday” for Netflix. Four of the eight episodes are executive produced and directed by “Tim Burton” with Gandja Monteiro and James Marshall serving as additional directors. Steve Stark, Andrew Mittman, Kevin Miserocchi, Kayla Alpert, Jonathan Glickman, and Gail Berman are also executive producers. The series’ co-showrunners, writers, and executive producers are Alfred Gough and Miles Millar.

Netflix hasn’t confirmed an exact release date for “Wednesday.” However, as per sources, it is expected to arrive on the platform in Autumn and with the release of the teaser image, fans hopefully don’t have to wait for too long.
