Jada Pinkett Smith turns heads at the Oscars 2022 in her gorgeous emerald Jean Paul Gaultier gown with a ruffled train. The “Red Table Talk” host attended the show with husband, the King Richard lead, Will Smith who won his first Academy Award that night.
Fans took to social media to commend her choice of clothing and going bold with being bald. “If the phrase ‘you’ve got to be seen in green’ was a person— it would be her!!” Twitter user added. “Giving every bit of Emerald City realness and glamour. SUCH a statement!!”
However, when Chris Rock came to introduce the award for Best Documentary, he joked to Smith’s wife in the audience, “Jada, I love ya. G.I Jane 2, can’t wait to see ya.” G.I Jane was a bald female senator and the joke was intended at her baldness.
While Smith laughed it off, the camera caught Jada giving an unimpressed look. There was a takeback from the audience as well from the joke till Will Smith walked up to Chris Rock and punched him. Chris was taken aback and was confused as he went “Oh wow,” as Smith went back to his seat “Will Smith just smacked the s— out of me.”

Rock’s joke was deeply personal to his wife since she had suffered from autoimmune disorder Alopecia for years. In an episode of “Red Table Talk,” she opened up about her struggle with hair loss by sharing “It was terrifying when it first started. I was in the shower one day and had just handfuls of hair in my hands and I was just like, ‘Oh my god, am I going bald?”
She even tried steroid injections as a temporary solution to halt the speedy hair loss. “I’m getting my little steroid injections, and they seem to be helping, but not curing, but they seem to be helping, but I’m open to other ideas,” she shared in a video post on Instagram in 2018.
She even extended her gratitude for the advice from her fans and many practitioners that helped her during this difficult period. “I just want to say a thank you to everyone for all the outreach, from all the doctors and all the holistic practitioners, who have been reaching out to me for this head of mine, I appreciate it so much,” she said. “And I’m taking into a lot of consideration all the recommendations that are coming my way.”

Back in July 2021, she debuted her shaved hairstyle in an Instagram post with daughter Willow Smith. The caption read. “Willow made me do it because it was time to let go BUT … my 50’s are bout to be Divinely lit with this shed,”
Will Smith, 53, and his wife have been disappointed by the comedy of Chris Rock, 57, in the past. Back in 2016, Rock was hosting the Academy Awards when he casually mocked Pinkett Smith’s decision to protest as part of the #OscarsSoWhite movement where no nominated stars of color were snubbed from major categories. He even mocked the Pursuit of Happyness actor for his insane salary in Wild Wild West.
Pinkett Smith after the incident shared “It comes with the territory.” She further added, “We gotta keep it moving, We got a lot of stuff we gotta handle, a lot of stuff going on in our world right now.”
Will Smith, later that night, went on stage to receive his first-ever Oscar award and gave a tearful speech. Although his heartfelt speech touched our hearts, there was no mention of the prior incident other than saying at the end “I hope the Academy invites me back next year” as a way of taunting the incident. No statements have been made so far by either Will Smith, Jada, or Chris Rock as of now.
