Will Smith Apologizes to Chris Rock Again Publicly in a New Video

Will Smith Regrets His Outburst and Said Sorry to Chris Rock Publicly

Will Smith, Chris Rock and the infamous Oscar slap involving the two have been the topic of global media attention earlier this year. This year’s Academy Awards witnessed Will Smith hitting Chris Rock on the face when the latter made a joke targeted at Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith.

Smith, after posting a text-based apology to Chris Rock on Instagram on March 29, posted a new video on his official social media handles last Friday and apologized once again. He shared a video on YouTube, Instagram, and Facebook on Friday, in which he felt guilty and apologized to Rock again, addressing him on camera for the first time, “I’m here whenever you’re ready to talk.”

The incident happened on stage before Will was awarded with the best actor award on March 27. Will stepped on the stage and slapped Rock on live television after taking offense to a joke about his wife’s shaved head.

What was your reaction the moment Will slapped Rock? Tell us openly!

He, stated, “I’ve reached out to Chris and the message that came back is that he’s not ready to talk, and when he is he will reach out,” Will said. “So I will say to you, Chris, I apologize to you. My behavior was unacceptable, and I’m here whenever you’re ready to talk.”

In the video Will Smith explains to Chris Rock why he didn’t say sorry to him in his Oscars acceptance speech for Best Actor, Will said, “I was fogged out by that point. It’s all fuzzy.”

Will further explained in a statement days later that the punchline was “too much for me to bear” and he “reacted emotionally.”

The King Richard actor continued by expressing his desire to make apologies to Rock’s mother:

“I saw an interview that his mother did. That’s one of the things about that moment I didn’t realize, I wasn’t thinking, but how many people got hurt in that moment.”

Will stated, “So I want to apologize to Chris’s mother; I want to apologize to Chris’s family, specifically Tony Rock [Chris’s younger brother]. We had a great relationship. Tony Rock was my man. This is probably irreparable,”

Soon after the incident took place, Will, who resigned from the Academy and also got banned to attend its ceremonies for the next ten years, regretted his outburst and issued a statement saying, “I would like to publicly apologize to you, Chris.”

He went on to explain, “I spent the last three months replaying and understanding the complexities and nuances of what happened.”

He further said, “I’m not gonna try to unpack all of that right now but I can say to you, there was no part of me that thought that was the right way to behave in that moment,”

Smith also promised that they will be able to be together again in the future and expressed regret to his wife and kids for all the calefaction that I brought on all of us.
