I reuse the rain that falls on my roof, and I reuse the sun that shines on my house for energy. I guess you could call me a strategic opportunist as much as an environmentalist.”

Hi guys! This is ScreenBinge.com and today we have the legendary actor, Ed Begley Jr. with us. Hello Ed, how are you doing? What’s been up?
Hey, just been working… I’m uh 71 years old now, I’ll be 72 in just a few days and I’ve been working 54 years in my chosen field. Next year it’ll be 55 so I feel very lucky to still be working uh at this point in my life and doing projects that I enjoy.
You’re definitely a lucky man! You know… once actors reach a certain stage and make enough money, they start losing interest in work. I’m glad that you’re still working and you have that passion for creativity. How did your journey in Hollywood begin?
Thank you I appreciate that. I was the son of an actor so, I wanted to be an actor like my father. I think if he was a plumber, I might be fitting pipe right now. I wanted to do what my father did, I greatly respected him. He was a good father and a good actor he’d won an Academy Award; he won an Oscar for “Sweet Bird of Youth.” You might be able to see it behind me over there, that’s my father’s Oscar he won that!
He was also in “12 Angry Men,” a wonderful American film done in the 50s. He did a lot of important stage work he was in “Inherit the Wind,” on Broadway and won a Tony Award for that.
You seem very much inspired by your father so, there’s always this one thing, either a man wants to be like his father or either he does not want to be anything like his father. So, there’s always this one thing, either a man wants to be like his father or either he does not want to be anything like his father.
That’s funny you would say that because I thought for years I don’t want to be anything like him. And then I woke up one day and realized I was exactly like him in many ways. A few ways that weren’t so good but I’ve worked on those but another way most of the stuff that I said I didn’t want to be like him at all. I was like him in many ways and I finally realized it was a very good thing to be like my dad. I mean they have a great effect on you, you know to be positive or negative, mine was luckily, very positive.
I want to be what my dad was and, in many ways, he was a very honourable man too. He cared deeply about the environment and I tried to keep all his traditions alive with my life and my work and my passions. And I’m very happy to say I’ve had some success you know following in his footsteps.
Ed I’ve been hearing some stuff and I’m sorry I did not do the research. I thought I’d ask you directly about it. You’ve been involved in some environment-friendly products and something related to pet food as well… could you please shed some light on that as well?
Umm…. the environment-friendly products, I was very concerned about the environment as a young man because I grew up in Los Angeles and as you’ve truly heard L.A has had horrible smog for many many decades. So, after 20 years of living in that smoggy L.A area I said enough already I’m going to try to do something different. I’m going to try to do my part and that’s a lesson I learned from my dad again. I started riding my bike even more than I did I started to take public transportation even more than I did and so all these things were good for the environment and very inexpensive.
Also, I started using baking soda instead of some common or harsh cleanser to clean my sink, I started using vinegar and water instead of you know some sort of Windex thing or you know ammonia spray.
They were cheap so I said well, this is great you know I’m going to stick with this environmental stuff. In fact, I think vinegar and all those things work better including baking soda. They work very well, then years later, I thought what about you know because not everybody liked the smell of vinegar and people I knew weren’t as inclined to use baking soda for some stains.
So, I thought what about if I had a line of cleaning products myself that not only were non-toxic but also cleaned really good even better than baking soda even better than vinegar. Yeah, and so I did that I worked with this lab this guy Mark Cunningham this group lab clean we found some products that are very clean and also a Pet Stain and Odor Remover that work very.
Because you’ve got your animals down on the ground, they’re licking their paws all the time and licking the floor you don’t want them to have something in their mouth that’s toxic and you have your little babies, you know crawling on the floor and putting their fingers in the mouth.
So, you don’t want to have anything non-toxic that’s why we came up with a line of cleaning products called “Begley’s Earth Responsible Cleaning Products,” that’s not a lot to remember.
All you got to remember is just go to Amazon and put in Begley cleaning and it’ll come right up or just Google search Begley Cleaning and we’ll come right up surely.
There are many other good products you don’t have to buy mine. The, Seventh Generation makes good products …. several other people make good cleaning products that are clean and green. So, check one of them out and get that toxic stuff out of your kitchen.
I want the toxic stuff out of everybody’s house wherever they do my product of theirs I don’t care I’m happy to go out of business because they’re doing so well.
Right, so there’s always this one thing, either a man wants to be like his father or either he does not want to be anything like his father.
That’s funny you would say that because I thought for years I don’t want to be anything like him. And then I woke up one day and realized I was exactly like him in many ways.
