Moon (2009)

Sam Bell’s three-year tenure as a lunar miner is coming to an end, and he’s excited to see his wife (Dominique McElligott) and infant daughter again. Unfortunately, Sam’s health rapidly deteriorates. He has severe headaches and hallucinations, and he nearly loses his life in a traffic accident. Sam encounters what appears to be a younger version of himself, perhaps a duplicate. Before the company team arrives, Sam must solve the enigma before time runs out.

District 9 (2009)

Multi-National United is in charge of the aliens, who are kept apart from humans in District 9 and are unconcerned with their welfare. When a corporation field agent (Sharlto Copley) is exposed to the alien biotechnology and begins mutating, he hunts down his former best friend (David James), who works in District-assigned garbage removal.

Monsters (2010)

A few years ago, NASA discovered the possibility of alien life, and as a consequence, a probe was built and launched to collect samples. After failing during re-entry over Central America, strange new life forms began to spring up and spread rapidly. Half of Mexico has been divided into an infected zone. In this scenario, we follow the adventures of a US journalist who is escorting his boss’s daughter through the region to the United States.

The cast includes Scoot McNairy, Whitney Able, and Mario Zuniga.

Inception (2010)

Inception (2010) is a story of a group of scientists who found a way to enter people’s dreams, steal information from the dreamer, or implant an idea into someone’s mind. In this movie, Leonardo DiCaprio plays Dom Cobb and is on a mission to plant an idea in business magnate Robert Fischer Jr.’s head against his father’s will by using dream invasion. Cobb is on the run from authorities who want to arrest him for stealing information. He is hired by Saito to retrieve secrets from Fischer’s mind, but Cobb stays in the dream too long, and his wife Mal falls into a coma. He has one last chance to see her again if he pulls off this assignment successfully.

Attack the Block (2011)

Source Code (2011)

The ultimate disaster is avoided, but not before Colter Stevens (Jake Gyllenhaal) flies a helicopter over the madman’s headquarters. Colter is part of a top-secret military initiative that allows him to experience the final minutes in Sean Fentress’ life following his death in a commuter-train accident. The aim of this program is to record memories that can be used in future mission simulations. Unfortunately, Colter’s best efforts are thwarted by his inability to maintain focus on the task at hand because of an overwhelming sense of déjà vu he experiences while being inside Fentress’ mind.

Rise of the Planet of the Apes (2011)

Caesar quickly becomes smart and learns English, leading him to rebel against his human “masters.”

Cloud Atlas (2012)

In an enormous five-century period epic, the actors (Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, and Jim Broadbent) play numerous parts. In the 1850s, a lawyer saves a fleeing slave on a ship from the Pacific Islands; in pre-World War II Britain, a poor composer attempts to finish his magnum opus before it is too late; in 2144, a genetically engineered worker senses the illicit stirring of human consciousness – and so on. The connections between souls are renewed throughout time as they are created and reborn.

The cast includes Halle Berry, Tom Hanks, Jim Broadbent, and many others.

Total Recall (2012)

Douglas Quaid is looking for a break from his routine existence, so he visits Rekall, a business that can turn desires into real memories. Believing dreams of being a spy are just what he needs to take his mind off things, Quaid goes through the process, but it goes horribly wrong. Suddenly, Quaid is a man on the run. He forms an alliance with a rebel fighter (Jessica Biel) in order to discover the head of the underground resistance and assassinate the leader of the free world (Bryan Cranston).

Looper (2012)

In a post-apocalyptic world, time travel is feasible, but it’s only available to the wealthy on the black market. So when the mob wants to take out someone, they send him or her back in time to be killed by a hitman known as a looper. Joe (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) is one such hired killer; he’s nearly 30, and he does his job well. But when the mob targets someone who should be decades older than Joe, things get complicated; that person is his future self (Bruce Willis).

Most people would run away or die trying to avoid meeting their younger selves-and not because of vanity issues like old age. The only reason for a looper to ever see his future self is because the older man has been sent back in time to be killed, and when that happens, Joe gets paid.

It stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Bruce Willis, who both give fine performances.

Elysium (2013)

In the year 2154, humanity is divided into two classes: The ultrarich live on Elysium, a luxurious space station, while the rest of mankind dwells in squalor on Earth’s ruins. Max (Matt Damon) accepts a hazardous mission to bring equality to the people if he succeeds, but Secretary Delacourt (Jodie Foster) has hired a lethal mercenary (Sharlto Copley) to stop him at all costs.

It stars Matt Damon, Jodie Foster, Sharlto Copley, Alice Braga.

The World’s End (2013)

The World’s End is a British period drama film directed by Matt Brown and written by Charlie Higson, based on his book of the same title. Gary King (Simon Pegg) is an irresponsible 40-year-old who wants one more go at an amazing pub crawl that he attempted 20 years earlier. So Gary and his pals travel to the mythical World’s End pub in their path to becoming better people. They strive to reconcile the past and present as they go along, but the most difficult battle is yet to come: for humanity.

The cast includes Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Paddy Considine, and Eddie Marsan.

Pacific Rim (2013)

Long ago, a race of massive monsters known as Kaiju rose from the ocean and brought with it devastating warfare. To combat the Kaiju, mankind designed huge robots called Jaegers that were supposed to be controlled by two people linked together via a neural bridge. However, even the Jaegers fail to defeat the monsters, and mankind is on the verge of defeat. The best hope lies with a washed-up former pilot and an untested trainee who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. They stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.

The fight scenes are really spectacular, worth your time and you will not regret watching it. If you are a fan of action robotic movies, like the Transformers movie series, I highly recommend this one.

Oblivion (2013)

In 2077, Jack Harper (Tom Cruise) is a security repairman on an Earth that has been abandoned and destroyed after a war with aliens. Jack has two weeks left before his mission expires, at which point he will be sent to join the other survivors on a distant colony. But when Jack rescues a beautiful stranger from the wreckage of a downed spacecraft, he finds himself involved in a journey across the galaxy to uncover the truth behind Earth’s disappearance.

It stars Tom Cruise, Morgan Freeman, and Olga Kurylenko.

Snowpiercer (2013)

The world is frozen in 2031, with the Snowpiercer as humanity’s last surviving train. For seventeen years, the world’s survivors have lived aboard the Snowpiercer, which has transported them around the planet while they built their own economy and social hierarchy. A revolution is taking place among the lower-class folks who live in squalor at the rear of the train, led by Curtis (Chris Evans). The group must overcome new obstacles as they travel from one part of the train to another. A revolution is on its way. This is the best sci-fi movie of the 21st century.

The cast includes Chris Evans, Tilda Swinton, Jamie Bell, and Ed Harris.

Her (2013)

A sensitive and spiritual man earns money by writing personal letters for others. Theodore (Joaquin Phoenix) is devastated following the collapse of his marriage and becomes interested in a new operating system, which supposedly evolves into an intuitive and unique entity in its own right. He begins the program and meets “Samantha,” whose vibrant voice reveals a sensitive, playful, and profound personality. The relationship begins as “friends,” but it soon deepens into love.

The cast includes Joaquin Phoenix, Scarlett Johansson, and Amy Adams.

Gravity (2013)

On her first shuttle mission, Dr. Ryan Stone (Sandra Bullock), a medical engineer, is chosen for the journey. Ryan (Sandra Bullock) has spent his life preparing for this moment. His final flight as a commander is veteran astronaut Matt Kowalsky (George Clooney), who will be retiring soon. Disaster strikes during a routine spacewalk when the shuttle is destroyed, leaving Ryan and Matt stranded in deep space with no link to Earth and no hope of rescue. Their only hope is to make it back home alive, but the long journey will take every ounce of strength and courage they have. It stars Sandra Bullock, George Clooney, and Ed Harris.

Riddick (2013)

On a scorching planet, Riddick (Vin Diesel) is left for dead and fights for survival against more deadly alien predators than any he has previously encountered. His only hope of escape is to activate an emergency signal, but that brings with it its own set of issues: mercenaries. The first vessel contains an especially vicious and dangerous group; Riddick’s only chance is to beat them in a fight and take their ship.

It stars Vin Diesel, Katee Sackhoff, Matt Nable, and Dave Bautista.

Under the Skin (2013)

An extraterrestrial creature takes possession of the human form of a young woman who wanders the highways and streets of Scotland in search of vulnerable people to plunder. She lures her lone and abandoned male victims into an otherworldly realm, where they are stripped and devoured. However, the strange visitor’s life begins to alter. She begins to recognize herself as a human with devastating and terrible consequences.

It stars Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy McWilliams, Lynsey Taylor Mackay, Dougie McConnell.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (2014)

In a decade after simian flu killed virtually the entire human genus, genetically modified chimpanzee Caesar (Andy Serkis) and his ever-growing flock of followers have set up a thriving colony in Muir Woods, just outside San Francisco. Meanwhile, a small band of human survivors breaks away from Caesar and his legion to face the dual problems of defending their people while also reconnecting with the rest of humanity, which Caesar has long sought.

Guardians of the Galaxy (2014)

When Chris Pratt’s Star-Lord finds himself the object of an unrelenting bounty hunt after stealing a mysterious orb, he joins forces with a quartet of disparate misfits. Quill, the Star Lord, actually steals an orb sought by Ronan, a ruthless foe; he is on the run. So, Quill is forced to band together with four oddballs: gun-wielding Rocket Raccoon, treelike-humanoid Groot, enigmatic Gamora, and vengeful Drax the Destroyer. When he learns of the orb’s full potential and the universe-threatening danger it poses, he must bring together his motley crew to defend the planet.

The One I Love (2014)

For a variety of standard causes, Ethan (Duplass) and Sophie (Moss) are seeing a marriage counselor: he cheated on her, they don’t communicate well, or they just don’t have sex anymore. They grieve the old “irreverent” selves who “did ecstasy at Lollapalooza.” After nearly a year apart, Ethan is in therapy with his ex-wife, who claims they’re on the verge of divorce. After experiencing their marital bliss again, they discover it’s all too difficult to recapture when what you had is gone forever. So their relationship now consists of trying to recreate the happiness they once had, which has resulted in a humorous and emotional exploration of love, infidelity, marriage, and friendship.

Divergent (2014)

Tris Prior (Shailene Woodley) is a teenager living in a dystopian future society divided into five factions. However, during her initiation, she finds out that she is a Divergent and will therefore be unable to fit into one group. Tris is warned that she must hide her identity; as a result, she discovers a looming war that threatens everyone she loves.

Ex Machina (2014)

Caleb Smith (Domhnall Gleeson) is a software engineer at a huge Internet firm who wins a competition that allows him to spend a week at Nathan Bateman’s (Oscar Isaac) secluded estate as the company’s brilliant CEO. When he gets there, Caleb finds out that he has been chosen to take part in a Turing test to judge the capabilities of artificial intelligence named Ava (Alicia Vikander).

The Edge of Tomorrow (2014)

The Maze Runner (2014)

Interstellar (2014)

In Earth’s future, a worldwide crop blight and a second Dust Bowl are methodically rendering the planet uninhabitable. But first, Brand must send former NASA pilot Cooper (Matthew McConaughey) and a team of researchers through the wormhole and across the galaxy to find out which of three planets could be mankind’s new home.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015)

The Martian (2015)

Meanwhile, NASA specialists and a group of international scientists work night and day to bring him home while his crew-mates hatch their own plan for a daring rescue mission.

Mad Max: Fury Road (2015)

She takes a job at a university and also meets the best guy ever.

Midnight Special (2016)

Alton Meyer is a boy who stands out from the rest of humanity in terms of his extremely powerful skills and unique vulnerabilities. His father, Roy, whisks him away from an isolated religious group that practically worships him at night in order to reclaim him at all costs. Paul Sevier, the National Security Agency’s head, is tasked with leading the Federal government’s pursuit of Alton as well. Meanwhile, Alton’s talents have been noted by the United States government, which is just as adamant about finding out what he can do as Paul Sevier was when they first met in Alaska. These two attempts at catching Alton collide as the movie progresses through a series of action sequences and suspenseful plot twists.

Life (2017)

As researchers on the crew conduct their studies, the swiftly evolving creature shows itself to be considerably more intelligent and frightening than anyone could have ever imagined.

Alien: Covenant (2017)

On the far side of the galaxy, a remote planet on the near side of the sky is home to an extraterrestrial civilization. Members (Katherine Waterston, Billy Crudup) of the colony ship Covenant reach it after landing on a distant planet with what they believe to be an untapped paradise. David (Michael Fassbender), a survivor of the doomed Prometheus mission, discovers that this planet is far from paradise and much more dangerous than they could have imagined. The fate of this colony now rests in his hands as well as those who remain on board Covenant with its two thousand occupants.

It stars Michael Fassbender, Katherine Waterston and Billy Crudup. It was directed by Ridley Scott from a script written by John Logan.

Blade Runner 2049 (2017)

A Blade Runner sequel is being planned, and Ryan Gosling has been cast as Officer K. A new blade runner for the Los Angeles Police Department uncovers a long-buried secret that has the potential to erupt what’s left of society into chaos. His discovery forces him on a mission to find Rick Deckard, a former blade runner who has been missing for thirty years.

Level 16 (2018)

Jake Pentecost is a once-great Jaeger pilot whose legendary father gave his life to ensure humanity’s victory against the terrible Kaiju. Jake has since abandoned his training, only to be drawn into a criminal underworld. But when an even more unstoppable menace emerges to decimate cities and bring the world to its knees, Jake is given one final chance to live up to his father’s legacy by his estranged sister, Mako Mori- a leading scientist on the very Kaiju which killed her parents.

High Life (2018)

With their spaceship destroyed, Monte and his newborn daughter are the last survivors of a doomed and deadly expedition to our solar system’s outer reaches. The Platform (2019)

An inaccessible place, a perplexing jail, and a deep hole all come to mind. There are an unknown number of levels. Each level has two prisoners. On the platform that descends with food for everyone there is a struggle between man and beast. A fight for survival on every level but also a chance for camaraderie.

In The Hole, a portion of which is where food is delivered via The Platform, Goreng awakens. People above become greedy and eat whatever they want, while people below get fewer. Goreng learns from his fellow cellmates that the individuals beneath might go insane or sane until they devour one another in bloody cannibalism, so he begins to intervene.

It stars Ivan Massagué, Zorion Eguileor, Antonia San Juan, Emilio Buale.

The Wandering Earth (2019)

The Wandering Earth is a story about the end of Earth’s life. Due to an increasing amount of global warming, humanity has decided that they need to move out into space and build a new home in another solar system far away from the Sun, becoming a red giant. To do this, scientists use their best technology available at the time (a Dyson engine) powered by nearly every major nation of Earth to move the entire planet out into space. The best part about this movie is that it’s based on a Chinese novel called “The Three-Body Problem,” which was written by Cixin Liu in 2006 and won the Hugo Award for Best, Novel in 2015.

Underwater (2020)

Water breaking through the walls of a drilling station miles below the ocean surface is a catastrophe. The survivors are guided by their leader, who tells them that their only chance for survival is to trek across the seafloor to the facility’s main section. However, when they are attacked by strange and deadly creatures that no one has ever seen, they find themselves in a life-and-death struggle.

It stars Kristen Stewart, T.J. Miller, Vincent Cassel, and Jessica Henwick.

Occupation: Rainfall (2020)

Survivors wage a desperate ground war two years after the takeover of Earth by aliens. While the day’s fatalities rise, the resistance – with some unexpected allies – uncovers a conspiracy that may bring the conflict to an end.

It stars Dan Ewing, Temuera Morrison, Daniel Gillies, Lawrence Makoare, and Zac Garred.

Oxygen (2021)

A woman is cryogenically frozen and wakes up in an oxygen-free medical cryogenic unit, discovering that she is trapped and the chamber’s oxygen levels are plummeting. She has no memory of who she is or how she came to be there, and her mind is foggy. An advanced AI named M.I.L.O.R. informs her that she is to be the first human implanted into an experimental, fully automated body capable of making decisions and acting on them unaided by humans. The woman protests at first but after realizing there was no oxygen left in the chamber, accepts M.I.L.O.R. ‘s proposal as a means to escape the dying chamber.

It stars Mélanie Laurent, Mathieu Amalric, Malik Zidi, Laura Boujenah.

Black Widow (2021)

Natasha Romanoff, known as Black Widow, confronts the sordid chapters of her past when a deadly conspiracy with connections to her past rises. Natasha must confront her days as a spy and the damaged relationships she has left in her wake long before she became an Avenger as she is pursued by a force that will stop at nothing to bring her down.

It stars Scarlett Johansson, Florence Pugh, Rachel Weisz, David Harbour.

Godzilla vs. Kong (2021)

Godzilla vs. Kong (2021) is a story of a battle between two monsters, Godzilla and Kong. In the year 2020, a giant meteorite crashes on Earth in Nevada’s grand canyon as it destroys Las Vegas. Scientists discover that there is another monster inside of it – an ancient beast known as King Kong – who has been imprisoned for thousands of years. Escaping from its prison, he begins to wreak havoc on the world while a giant creature known as Godzilla rises from his watery grave to fight him.,

It stars Alexander Skarsgård, Millie Bobby Brown, Rebecca Hall, Brian Tyree Henry.

Godzilla is a legendary Titan whose species has not succumbed to the ravages of time. You should try watching the Godzilla movie series as it’s one of the most entertaining Monster fiction and fantasy movies ever made.
