Barbara Broccoli Reveals When the Next 007 Movie will Come Out

Daniel Craig

The world is keenly interested in finding out who will play the role of James Bond once Daniel Craig hangs up his tuxedo, following a successful run of films in the series. When will the next James Bond film be released? The timeline for the next 007 films has always been uncertain when it comes to choosing the new James Bond.

Producer Barbara Broccoli reflects that the development of Bond 26 in a time frame is not so close, but also not too far. The next James Bond film won’t be released until at least two years or more. Daniel Craig’s tenure as James Bond ended with the release of “No Time to Die” in 2021.

Barbara Broccoli says it will take some time to find a new actor to play the iconic secret agent. However, that Daniel Craig’s replacement hasn’t even started yet. It’s a “reinvention of Bond.”

Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson

Speaking at an event in Central London, held to honor Broccoli and her brother Michael G, Broccoli gave an update on the James Bond selection and decision-making process. She avoided direct questions on who would portray Bond in the upcoming film but did provide some details about when and how the next Bond will be selected.

“Nobody’s in the running,” Broccoli said when asked about Craig’s successor. “We’re working out where to go with him, we’re talking that through. There isn’t a script and we can’t come up with one until we decide how we’re going to approach the next film because, really, it’s a reinvention of Bond. We’re reinventing who he is and that takes time. I’d say that filming is at least two years away.”

Pierce Brosnan’s penultimate Bond film, “Die Another Day,” came out in 2002, and Daniel Craig’s first film, “Casino Royale,” came out in 2006. Idris Elba and Regé-Jean Page, a breakout star of “Bridgerton,” have both been mentioned as potential Craig replacements, although Broccoli emphasized that the hunt hasn’t even started in an official capacity. In the fall of 2021, the producer stated throughout most of the “No Time to Die” press tour that casting for the next Bond wouldn’t even begin until well into 2022.

Regardless of who steps in to replace Craig, he will have a lot on his shoulders. During his five-film tenure, Craig was able to successfully revitalize the Bond franchise. “Skyfall,” and “No Time to Die” performed well at the box office. At the global box office, “Skyfall” brought in more than $1 billion. The films also performed well domestically, bringing in $880 million and $774 million, respectively.

“It’s a big decision,” Broccoli told Variety earlier this year at the opening of the Craig-starring “Macbeth” on Broadway. “It’s not just casting a role. It’s about a whole rethink about where we’re going.”

It has now been announced by the producer that the next James Bond film will not be released before 2024. That’s three years after the release of No Time To Die. It’s not a terrible stretch, especially given the Daniel Craig era of Bond witnessed longer gaps between films on a more frequent basis. However, if you’re one among the fans who were hoping this year will witness the introduction of a new 007 with other clockwork entries in the series to follow, this may seem like a decade.

With regards to how “No Time to Die” concluded, Barbara Broccoli’s plan seems to make perfect sense. There is no way to continue that particular storyline since the Craig continuity results in the death of his incarnation of Commander Bond. The strategy for the series’ future needs to be established before Bond 26 is written or even the casting process for the following Bond can start.

Whosoever replaces “Daniel” will have a lot of things to prove, and also have to maintain the gesture that viewers have been watching for a long time in the James Bond franchise. The actor will have to justify that he has the capability to carry the burden, put on his shoulder.
