Brian Cox Speaks Out in Favor of J.K. Rowling’s Anti-Trans Comments

Brian Cox Defends J.K. Rowling’s Anti-Trans Comments ‘She’s Entitled to Her Opinion

In recent weeks, J.K. Rowling, the author of the beloved Harry Potter series, has come under fire for her comments on trans rights. Many have criticized her for her views, which they believe to be transphobic. However, actor Brian Cox has come out defending Rowling. He believes that the author is entitled to her opinion, no matter how controversial.

Cox is a firm believer in freedom of speech. He believes everyone should have the right to express their views, even if others disagree. It is important to have diverse opinions and allow people to express them without fear of backlash.

“I don’t like the way she’s been treated, actually. I think she’s entitled to her opinion, she’s entitled to say what she feels,” Cox said during the British talk show “Sunday With Laura Kuenssberg.” “As a woman, she’s very much entitled to say what she feels about her own body. There’s nobody better to say that as a woman. So, I do feel that people have been a bit high and mighty about their own attitude toward J.K. Rowling.”

Rowling first attracted the public’s ire in December 2019 when she tweeted her support for a British researcher named Maya Forstater. Forstater had been sacked from the Centre for Global Development (CGD) because of her anti-trans statements. Rowling defended Forstater.

Later, the author, who is 57 years old, tweeted that she had a problem with the phrase “people who menstruate.” She has frequently been the target of criticism from members of the LGBTQ community for reiterating ideologies that have been linked to the trans-exclusionary radical feminist (TERF) movement, which frequently embraces the belief that trans women are not women.

Stars like Helena Bonham Carter and Ralph Fiennes, veterans of the Harry Potter franchise, have supported Rowling’s right to express her opinion. Even though Harry Potter actor Daniel Radcliffe and organizations like GLAAD have voiced opposition to Rowling’s comments, Rowling has the right to express her opinion.

Ralph Fiennes, who portrayed Lord Voldemort in the Harry Potter film trilogy, has said in the past that the criticism that Rowling has received is “appalling. “J.K. Rowling has written these great books about empowerment, about young children finding themselves as human beings,” Fiennes told The New York Times. “It’s about how you become a better, stronger, more morally centered human being. The verbal abuse directed at her is disgusting. It’s appalling.”

Bonham Carter also addressed the current criticism that the author of the Harry Potter series, J.K. Rowling, has been subjected to over the last several years. Emma Watson, Daniel Radcliffe, and Rupert Grint are just a few Harry Potter stars who have spoken out against Rowling’s contentious views about the transgender population.

Daniel Radcliffe, a former “Harry Potter cast member,” has said that Rowling’s statements do not match his convictions on equal rights. He made this statement to IndieWire.

The reason I was felt very, very much as though I needed to say something when I did was because, particularly since finishing ‘Potter,’ I’ve met so many queer and trans kids and young people who had a huge amount of identification with Potter on that,” Radcliffe said. “And so seeing them hurt on that day, I was like, I wanted them to know that not everybody in the franchise felt that way. And that was really important.”

Warner Bros. has justified its decision to continue working with Rowling in 2022 by stating that the production company has “enjoyed a creative, productive, and fulfilling partnership with J.K. Rowling for the past 20 years. She is one of the world’s most accomplished storytellers, and we are proud to be the studio to bring her vision, characters, and stories to life now — and for decades to come.”

Before releasing the first book in the “Fantastic Beasts” prequel series, Rowling was responsible for penning the seven best-selling “Harry Potter” novels. Over the years, the author has received criticism for several anti-transgender statements, the most recent of which occurred in March 2022 about revisions proposed to the Gender Recognition Reform Bill in Scotland.

Rowling had a hand in writing “Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore” and is the one who gave the screenplays their final clearance. Rowling appeared on the red carpet for the most recent premiere of “Fantastic Beasts,” although she could not attend HBO’s 20th-anniversary special for “Harry Potter.”
