Warner brothers allotted a mere $55 million for the production of Joker, thinking the dark tone of the film might not bag much at the box office. Luckily, Todd Philips didn’t say “All I have are negative thoughts.” and instead went about producing the film.

Some executives at the studio believed that this would stop Philips from producing the film. But thanks to Joaquin Phoenix and his “oh so real” acting skills that the stand alone minted quite a lot at the box office.

With a budget twice as less as of the Venom‘s and Logan‘s, the movie managed to surpass earnings of both, and is the 7th highest grossing DC film of all time. Compared to Venom, which made around $269 million from china alone, Joker hasn’t even been released in China.

The film has made much more money than probably the company expected. According to sources the producers were nervous if the film would even perform at the box office, well “who’s nervous now?”

In just 17 days the stand alone has crossed the earnings of Justice League ($US 657 million) and Man of Steel ($US 668 million). It’s just a matter of days that it will cross Wonder Woman and Batman Vs Superman, which made over $800 million each.

The question is will it cross the $1 Billion mark? Aquaman, The Dark Knight Rises and The Dark Knight all three have grossed more than a billion dollars and Joker is likely to come close to that considering the astounding performance in just 17 days.

Joker has beaten many of the MCU titles already: Iron Man ($US 585.2 million), Doctor Strange (US$ 677.7 million) and Captain America: The Winter Soldier ($US 714.3 million) The Incredible Hulk, Captain America: The First Avenger, Thor, Ant-Man 1 & 2, Iron Man 2 and Thor: The Dark World. Considering that Joker is an R-rated film, whereas the MCU movies are PG-13.

And if we come to comparing it with R- rated films, Joker has also surpassed IT: Chapter One making it the 5th highest grossing R- rated film worldwide. By the end of the day it will also have surpassed The Matrix Reloaded‘s earnings which were around $US 738 million.

While Terminator: Dark Fate (24 October) and Zombieland: Double Tap (31 October) are gonna be on the screens soon, it is expected that Joker will at least come very close to the $1 billion mark if not cross it.
