I’m Thinking Of Ending Things (2020)
Director: Charlie Kaufman
Stars: Jesse Plemons, Jessie Buckley, Toni Collette
It’s surely a masterpiece not made for missing and based on a true story. I’m thinking of ending things is the story of a young girl who takes a roundtrip with her new boyfriend to his family farm despite thinking of ending things with him. But, unfortunately, she and her boyfriend get trapped at the farm due to the snowstorm. This is where tension rises when she starts questioning everything around; her boyfriend, herself, and her vision of the real world. Many viewers considering ending things soon after they’ve begun. The interior of a farmhouse, an apartment, or the interior of an interior is depicted in a cascade of primitive views. A woman we haven’t seen yet is in the middle of a story, telling us something we don’t understand. However, she plays a woman who suddenly appears in a 3-D snow globe. As puffy snowflakes fall, she stands on the street, looking up at a window. This isn’t how a heist movie should be made, says film critic Roger Ebert. Lucy, Lucia, or Amy Ryan, played by Jessie Buckley, is considering quitting her relationship with Jesse’s Jake. The argument seems to be that things aren’t going to go well. The film’s self-consciousness could have been excruciating if it weren’t for the fact that awareness and our fragmentary experience of it are the goal. It would be a platitude to argue that the film accepts both the beauty and evil of life, which the film itself rejects.

All hell breaks loose when a group of century-old, self-healing immortal mercenaries find their secret out in the open, along with an unexpected addition to their now exposed coven. All must be done to save the integrity and the freedom of their kind, even if it means taking a drastic decision. Director Gina Prince Bythewood shows she can steer a high concept action blockbuster while cobbling together something that feels like the kind of lego movie “they” just don’t make anymore. A budget more than worthy of the best DTV action sequences anyone could hope could make it to a permanent Netflix browser. There’s a lot to learn from Andromache the Scythian Charlize’s struggles. Prince Bythewood’s action chops confidently step up, but one wishes for more capably clear action auteurism. Given Netflix’s ostensibly unlimited resources, sequels are all but guaranteed. The Old Guard contains a plethora of delights, the most notable of which is the emergence of Kiki Layne as an exceptionally promising action star. Too much trigger-happy editing gets in the way of admirable set-pieces, though plenty of violence abounds.

One of the most popular trilogies is a coming of age teenage romance novel; based on the New York best seller by Jenny Han – To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before. The trilogy starts with Lare-Jean Song Covey and the 5 un-posted love letters she wrote in grade 5 for her crushes. Until they mysteriously find themselves in the hand of their recipients, leaving Lara-Jean’s dirty laundry out in the open. But there’s a plot twist, one of the recipients is her sister’s boyfriend. This movie is based on romantic comedy. The walls are closing in on Lara-Jean. Will she be able to get herself out of this situation and find the love of her life? It’s perfect for a movie. TATBILB inverts the 80/20 ratio completely All five of our daydreamy, emotionally buttoned-up protagonist Lara Jean Lana Condor’s deeply private love letters to her childhood crushes have been stolen and mailed out within the first 20 minutes, including the one to her neighbor and best friend, Josh Israel Broussard, who also happens to be her older sister’s just barely ex-boyfriend. No amount of emotional honesty would be worth anything if the leads didn’t have chemistry. Noah Centineo’s wonderfully charming Peter Kavinsky steals the film as Lara Jean. This abrupt halt to whatever lengthy emotional dishonesty Lara Jean may have hoped to engage in for the rest of her life frees up the final eighty minutes of the film for her to embrace some truly radical emotional honesty. It’s a story strength that TATBILB allows Lara Jean to do so not in spite of, but because of the fanfic favorite trope of faking courting another, less hazardous letter reader Noah Centineo’s wonderfully charming Peter Kavinsky. Lana Condor and Noah Centineo star in TATBILB. Anna Cathcart steals every scene as Lara Jean’s med student. Janel Parrish plays against type as the sweet and steel-spined Margot. Madeleine Arthur is exactly the wide-eyed punk weirdo she needs to be.

Director Mike Flanagan edits condenses and slim Stephen King’s novel to get to the essence of the themes beneath. The result is an unconstrained celebration of their art. Oculus, Hush, and Ouija: Origin of Evil all feature strong female leads. Every one of these best films, including Gerald’s Game, features a strong female protagonist. This is nothing new for director Michael Flanagan, who has directed some of the best horror films of recent years. Gerald’s Game is an understated, overachieving little thriller with two actors capable of tackling the majority of the dramatic problems it provides. Flanagan was an easy choice for Gerald’s Game, an easy director to work with, and an easy film to watch.

Private Life (2018)
Director: Tamara Jenkins
Stars: Kathryn Hahn, Paul Giamatti, Gabrielle Reid
Having a child-less marriage may be a requirement for some but torturous for others struggling to have one. As much as it is a blessing, at times, it can take a toll on the person going through it, and in most cases, the whole marriage itself. Threatened by the lack of children in their marriage, Rachel and Richard are fighting hard to keep their marriage afloat while trying different methods. Private Life is a quietly amazing historical drama about family, marriage, and growing older. Tamara Jenkins takes a familiar scenario as her entrance point: a 40-something couple seeking to have a child. It is one of the rich universal pictures with the courage to take its time, allowing its characters to unfold. Private Life, directed by Paul Giamatti and Kathryn Hahn, is constantly moving and surprising. The film chronicles communicate accurately about human relationships and how they might be endangered but also renewed. Richard and Rachel, played by Giamatti and Hahn, have been married for a long time and each of them has a fulfilling artistic life in New York City. However, they’ve had difficulty conceiving in recent years, a problem that no amount of fertility treatments has been able to solve. The film’s first act spends a substantial portion of its first act depicting how couples like Richard and Rachel go through IVF. Jenkins’ Slums of Beverly Hills, The Savages exploits the couple’s problems to explore significantly more interesting topics. Private Life has its comedic moments but is primarily clinical. Richard is bothered by his inability to procreate, but Rachel is dealing with deeper grief that goes well beyond being denied motherhood. Is it most pressing that they are obsessed with having a child since they realize their marriage is in trouble?

Action, Drama, Sci-Fi
Director: Bong Joon Ho
Stars: Chris Evans, Jamie Bell, Tilda Swinton
Snowpiercer is a sci-fi noir thriller set in a futuristic society. Adapted from a graphic novel by Jacques Lob, Benjamin Legrand, and Jean-Marc Rochette. In an ill-advised attempt to reverse global warming, the government flooded the atmosphere with an untested chemical. Something similar to a post-apocalyptic era where the only ones surviving are the ones onboard the Snowpiercer, a train with a class system. First-class is luxurious, and as the class goes down, so does the living standards, to the point where the inhabitants began to revolt. After sci-fi movies, I believe alien movies are a must-see. Snowpiercer is gory, imaginative, terrifying, gorgeous, visceral, and totally amazing all at the same time. Korean writer/director Bong Joon-ho is one of the most exciting filmmakers working today. No-holds-barred, slow motion-heavy action set-piece pits two armies against. Needless to say, this situation has not elicited the best in humanity. Bong’s grim and terrible picture may be playing a song we’ve all heard before, but he does it with such zeal and dexterity that you can’t help but be swept up in the frenzy.

Catch me if you can (2002)
Biography, Crime, Drama
Director: Steven Spielberg
Stars: Leonardo DiCaprio, Tom Hanks, Christopher Walken
One of Steven Spielberg’s jaws finest works with DiCaprio, who is an excellent con artist extracting millions out of people, until he grabs the attention of an FBI Agent, Carl Hanratty, who becomes obsessed with the con man. One of Leonardo’s finest works and rightfully on the list of the movies. Catch Me If You Can is a huge fat slice of cinematic comfort food for fans of tongue-in-cheek and silky ’60s crime dramas like Stanley Donen’s brilliantly twisting Charade. From the breezy but non-condescending adventures of charming as hell conman Frank Abagnale Jr. played by Leonardo DiCaprio in a role tailor-made for him, to the minimalist and pastel animated credits sequence, accentuated wistfully by John Williams’ jazzy score this is a genre throwback that crackles throughout. Tom Hanks, in only his second film with the director after Saving Private Ryan, plays an anal FBI agent on Abagnale’s tail, but Christopher Walken, as Abagnale’s strong-willed but tragically self-destructive working-class father, is the real MVP here. Frank Abagnale Jr played a admiring role in this movie.

In Dolemite Is My Name, Eddie Murphy. He is a multi-hyphenate artist who wants to take his comedy career to the next level. Although spreading awareness on a large scale is an ambitious objective. Michael Moore stars in the film Dolemite Is My Name. Since 2012, the actor has been largely absent from the public eye taking years between productions. Eddie Murphy plays the smooth-talking man himself, played by Murphy at the center of the film’s story. it is one of the high-rating movies on Netflix right now. Moreover, in 2016, he reappeared in the drama Mr. Church, where his acting was acclaimed but the film was slammed. Murphy is in top comedic form as Dolemite, taking the lead character with zeal. Without ridiculing Moore, he welcomes his little ridiculous zeal and can-do attitude. The film follows Moore’s ambition for celebrity and the entrepreneurial risks he took to become the talk of the town. We get a picture that honors Moore’s legacy while also reminding fans of Eddie Murphy’s star power.
The Death of Stalin (2017)
Comedy, Drama, History
Director: Armando Iannucci
Stars: Steve Buscemi, Simon Russell Beale, Jeffrey Tambor
it is one of the high-rating movies on Netflix right now. An absurd comedy and satire which didn’t fail to disappoint as it portrays the death of Joseph Stalin and how his subordinates struggle to fight for power to become the force of power in Soviet Russia. The Death of Stalin, his latest film, takes us to Russia in 1953 when Stalin was still in power. Despite the passage of time, the country is still gripped by widespread terror fueled by nationalism. That dynamic can be seen in The Thick of It, In the Loop, Veep, and, most recently, in his latest film, The Death of Stalin, whose subject matter can be deduced from a single glimpse. The Death of Stalin is a comical parody of the political shambles that followed Stalin’s death. To make oppression and state-sanctioned torture so humorous takes a delicate hand and a rare gift from the master storyteller, Sir Ian McEwan.
Dick Johnson is Dead (2020)
Writer:Nels Bangerter, Kirsten Johnson
Director: Kirsten Johnson
Stars: Kirsten Johnson, Dick Johnson
IMDb Rating: 7.4/10
Kirsten Johnsons Cameraperson is about the vulnerability of observation. Dick Johnson Is Dead, Johnson’s follow-up, continues to explore that vulnerability. This is a deeply personal devotion to something she has no control over. The film follows a young woman who is forced to re-enact the various ways in which her father could pass away. From falling from a balcony to a nail festooned 24 to the face, she relives his final moments in a series of cinematic vignettes. However, Johnson realizes she may be exploiting someone she loves who is beginning to show alarming signs of dementia and can no longer fully comprehend the high concept. The more she loses herself in the project, the more she spends more time consulting stunt people, art few directors, and crew members than her own father.
Not Another Teen Movie (2001)
Director: Joel Gallen
Writers: Mike Bender Adam Jay Epstein Andrew Jacobson
Stars: Chyler Leigh Jaime Pressly Chris Evans
Not Another Teen Movie (2001) – Chris Evans as a deluded jock was an early peak for the Captain America star. Director Joel Gallen’s film is one of the funniest teen sex comedies of the ’90s with plenty of quotable lines and a skillfully sliced cookie-cutter style from the director and Comedy Central staple Joel Gallen. However, with a pissed-off Molly Ringwald capping it all in a perfect cameo, the film crosses low and high brow with plenty of success. The parody is so superb that it’s difficult to take it seriously after seeing it.
The Karate Kid (2001)
Director: Harald Zwart
Writers: Christopher Murphey, Robert Mark Kamen
Stars: Jackie Chan Jaden Smith Taraji P. Henson
Many of the sequences feel dated and trope-laden, but that’s largely owing to how much the film has been imitated in the years since its premiere. Ralph Macchio and Pat Morita would become icons of the martial arts film industry. Sensei Kreese is one of the great villains of the martial arts film, Cobra Kai. It was the kind of thing that characterized karate for a generation of youngsters.
It Comes at Night (2007)
Director: Trey Edward Shults
Writer: Trey Edward Shults
Stars: Joel Edgerton Christopher Abbott Carmen Ejogo
It Comes at Night stars David Pendleton as an old man who doesn’t have much time left. The film’s makers cradle his face in close-up as if holding him, in an attempt to ease his passing. The man’s defeated expression, his laborious breathing, then the muffled voices of consolation, assuring him it’s OK to let go and that he’s loved, are all portrayed with a care that can only be characterized as some sort of deep, abiding empathy for the characters, any characters, Shults has on screen. The voices are then muffled due to the fact that they are coming from gas masks. Then we see people in gas masks carry the old man out to the woods in a wheelbarrow, shoot him in the head, and incinerate his body in a hole. It Comes at Night is more of a horror film than Trey Shults’ last film, Krisha. Everything is laced with dread and every situation is suffocated by inevitability. However, Director Trey Shults imagines a near future in his sophomore film, which has a far higher budget than Krisha. The small group of people in Shults’ film must accept the same things that the audience does in order to hold their shit together enough to keep living. It Comes at Night is a triumph of empathic, soul-shaking filmmaking, trauma as a tone poem, bittersweet to the bone. We feel as though we’re saying farewell to these characters throughout the story, even though we only just started to know them.
I am Devine (2014)
Director: Jeffrey Schwarz
Writer: Jeffrey Schwarz
Stars: Divine Michael, Musto Mark Payne
I Am Divine by Jeffrey Schwarz is a biography of the American singer-songwriter Divine. Schwarz follows Divine from his early life in Baltimore to his ascent to stardom. The book’s narrative is entwined with that of the Dreamlanders, who banded together to create a safe zone for themselves. The Factory at Warhol’s film makes several references to Andy Warhol. Despite his crazy altered identity, Milstead was a gentle, calm, and generous man. John Waters, Divine, Mink Stole, and the rest of them seemed to truly like one other. Documentary I Am Divine tells the story of John Waters as a young man through interviews with former collaborators, acquaintances, and relatives. As a result, the film gives the impression that everything is possible without expertise, contacts, or money to achieve what Hollywood consistently fails to do.
The Killin of a Secred Deer (2017)
Director: Yorgos Lanthimos
Writers: Yorgos Lanthimos, Efthymis Filippou
Stars: Barry G. Bernson, Herb Caillouet, Bill Camp
The Killin of Sacred Deer is a universal picture. Yorgos Lanthimos has become a master of the queasy/funny horror-comedy. He turns our universal fears into psychologically deep satires in Dogtooth and The Lobster. His best films are hilarious because they are surprising and scary because they’re so accurate. The Killing of a Sacred Deer sees him reunite with Colin Farrell, Nicole Kidman, and Raffey Cassidy. It’s difficult to characterize these characters as they don’t actually have any real-life counterparts. Director Yorgos Lanthimos’ latest film is his most visually and acoustically ambitious work to date. Martin Barry Keoghan plays a moody adolescent who appears to be lobotomized. It’s very clever without ever exactly deciding what it’s about.
Always Be My Maybe (2017)
Director: Nahnatchka Khan
Writers: Ali WongRandall Park, Michael Golamco
Stars: Ali WongRandall Park, James Saito
Ali Wong and Randall Park play childhood friends who lose touch after a disastrous teen romance. After his mother’s death, Wong’s Sasha becomes a star chef. Park’s Marcus stays at home and works for his father’s blue-collar business. Always Be My Maybe is out in UK cinemas now. Always Be My Maybe is about two adults with separate lives deciding to be together. Part of it, significantly, entails both Marcus and Sasha supporting one another’s careers. Director Nahnatchka Khan keeps the film running at a comfortable humorous pace throughout. There’s a serial killer cameo appearance that you don’t know about until you watch it. He was also a zodiac killer.
The Platform (2019)
Director: Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia
Writers: David Desola, Pedro Rivero
Stars: Ivan Massagué, Zorion Eguileor, Antonia San Juan
The Platform is one of the few films in the world today that offers a clear, high-concept basis and removes all unnecessary information from the viewer. We don’t need to know how this ostensibly social experiment works, yet the repeated glances we receive of cooks slaving over dishes are supposed to pique our interest. What counts is that we see how different personalities react to hardship. You’ll find plenty of nihilism here, and you won’t be disappointed, but there are glimmers of hope too.
Director: Christopher Nolan
Writer: Christopher Nolan
Stars: Leonardo DiCaprio, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Elliot Page
Inception, directed by Christopher Nolan, is a high-octane sci-fi thriller and such an incredible cast. The film’s central conceit isn’t just a plot device, but the entire story. Pfister’s stunning, globe-spanning on-location photography suggests near-obsessive attention to detail. Inception’s dream exploration and Nolan’s filmmaking both aim toward the same goal: to provide us with a simulation that challenges our perceptions. The film leaves behind pictures and memories that tug at our perceptions, challenging us to wonder if we’ve fully grasped it or if we’re simply half-remembering a waking dream. Film-maker Christopher Nolan deconstructs rather than sculpts time like Andrei Tarkovsky. He utilizes filmmaking to rip time apart so he can reassemble it as he pleases. As a rationalist, Nolan wishes to cheat time and death. Christopher Nolan’s Inception is his weapon, his tool, in his revolution against temporal reality. A ticking clock is a recurring motif for him, which Hans Zimmer literalized in the scores for Interstellar and Dunkirk. The paradox staircases or mirror-upon mirrors of Inception are part of his arsenal. Inception is the brainchild of award-winning filmmaker David Fincher, who believes that if one could go inside the mind of a dreamer they could exist for eternity. He creates and engineers film frameworks that emphasize the passage of time while simultaneously allowing for escape.
Writer & Director: Mamoru Hosoda
Stars: Rebecca Hall, Daniel Dae Kim, John Cho
Many of his short films are autobiographical exercises in some way. Summer War was the many-times-removed story of Hosoda meeting his wife’s family for the first time. Wolf Children and The Boy and the Beast were completed shortly after Hosoda became a father. Hosoda’s Mirai is a beautiful adventure fantasy drama that takes the viewer on a dazzling odyssey across Kun’s entire family tree. The film is told from the perspective of Kun (Moka Kamishiraishi), a toddler who feels displaced and insecure in the wake of his sister Mirai’s birth. However, Hosoda’s Mirai was nominated for an Academy Award for best picture – the first nomination for an anime film not created by Studio Ghibli. Mirai is Hosoda’s most accomplished work to date and a highly recommended viewing for adults and children alike.
Directors: Chris ButlerSam Fell
Writer: Chris Butler
Stars: Kodi Smit-McPhee, Anna Kendrick, Christopher Mintz-Plasse
It is the best ghost story animated movie. ParaNorman is a brilliantly made stop-motion film. The first story is a mix of Something Wicked This Way Comes and The Goonies. Filmmakers go into the next story with their tongues firmly planted in their cheeks. Norman has the capacity to see and communicate with ghosts, which may make him popular among the dead. Norman is bullied at school by both students and instructors. We develop a fondness for this small, tough, lovely youngster as he painstakingly wipes the word “freak” from his locker.
