Invincible season two was released on March 13, 2024, and if you’ve not seen this animated superhero show yet, you’re missing out on a wild ride. We’re talking blood, guts, and some seriously messed-up supervillains. But that’s what makes it so damn good!

Invincible is an adult animated superhero series based on the comic book series of the same name by Robert Kirkman, Cory Walker, and Ryan Ottley. It follows the story of a seemingly ordinary 17-year-old named Mark Grayson, who happens to be the son of Omni-Man, the most powerful superhero on Earth.

Although it may seem cool to have a superhero dad, Mark faces immense pressure due to his father’s status. Eventually, he also develops his powers and becomes a superhero, taking on the name Invincible. However, things take a dark turn when Mark finds out that his father is actually part of a conquering alien race known as the Viltrumites.

This revelation throws Mark’s world into chaos, forcing him to confront his father and question everything he thought he knew about being a hero.

The Day Everything Changed for Invincible | Invincible | Prime Video

Invincible is not your typical superhero story.

It’s brutal, it’s emotional, and it doesn’t shy away from the consequences of violence. But it’s also incredibly well-written, with complex characters and a plot that keeps you guessing, powered by a talented cast of voice actors who give life to them on-screen.

Here is the star-studded lineup of the Invincibles:

No. Actor Character(s)
1 Steven Yeun Mark Grayson/Invincible

Steven Yeun as Mark Grayson / Invincible

You probably know Steven as Glenn from The Walking Dead, and he brings the same emotional depth and vulnerability to Mark. He perfectly captures Mark’s journey from a naive teenager to a hardened hero forced to make tough choices.

J.K. Simmons as Nolan Grayson / Omni-Man

J.K. Simmons, known for his iconic roles like J. Jonah Jameson in the Spider-Man movies, is chilling as Omni-Man. He portrays the character’s cold, calculating nature with such conviction that you can’t help but feel a sense of dread whenever he’s on screen.

Sandra Oh as Debbie Grayson

Sandra Oh, the queen of nuanced performances (we all miss Cristina Yang!), brings her A-game as Mark’s mom, Debbie. She’s strong, supportive, and fiercely protective of her family but also realistically flawed as she grapples with the shocking truth about her husband.

Zazie Beetz as Amber

Zazie voices Mark’s on-and-off girlfriend, Amber, who supports him through his challenges.

Beetz gained recognition for her role as Van in the FX series “Atlanta,” which aired over four seasons from 2016 to 2022, earning her an Emmy nomination. She portrayed Domino in the 2018 sequel to “Deadpool” and appeared with Joaquin Phoenix in Todd Phillips’ 2019 movie “Joker.”

Sterling K. Brown as Angstrom Levy

As angsty as the name is, Sterling voices Angston Levy, the key antagonist for the second season, a powerful man who can travel across dimensions. Exposed to the realities of the multiverse, he decides to innovate and rescue his own reality by acquiring knowledge from his alternate selves.

Gillian Jacobs as Atom Eve

She is known for her portrayal of Britta Perry in the NBC comedy series “Community” and Mickey Dobbs in the Netflix romantic comedy series “Love.” Gillian Jacobs stars as Samantha Eve Wilkins/Atom Eve, a superhero struggling with her identity and purpose.

Walton Goggins as Cecil

Walton Goggins portrays Cecil Stedman, the director of the Global Defense Agency (GDA). He is charged with protecting Earth from external dangers, overseeing the actions of superheroes, and preserving the fragile equilibrium between superpowered beings and regular citizens.

Chris Diamantopoulos as Donald Ferguson

Chris plays Donald’s assistant, he also voices Pete, Isotope, and other characters in the show. As Donald, It is disclosed that he was once a human who became an android, having been repeatedly resurrected by the GDA as he maintained his collaboration with them.

Zachary Quinto as Robot

Zachary is voicing a drone, who is a key member of the current Guardians of the Globe lineup, Quinto is perhaps most recognized for his portrayal of Spock in J.J. Abrams’ 2009 “Star Trek” film and its sequels.

Jason Mantzoukas as Rex

Jason Mantzoukas is voicing Rex Splode in Invincible, a volatile hero who can create explosive blasts with his hands. He is most recognized for his recurring role as Rafi in the FX comedy series, The League.

Khary Payton as Black Samson

Payton is certainly experienced in voicing superheroes across TV, film, and video games. In Amazon Prime Video’s “Invincible,” he voices Black Samson, a seasoned fighter grappling with his efforts to remain relevant and mentor a new generation after losing his powers.

Kevin Michael Richardson as The Mauler Twins

Known for his deep voice in the acting world, Kevin Michael Richardson voices the villainous duo of the Mauler Twins in Invincibles. Despite their names, the Mauler “Twins” are not actual twins. In the story, Mauler is a mad scientist who developed a cloning process to create a counterpart who matches his intellect and can assist competently with his unconventional scientific experiments.

Seth Rogen as Allen the Alien

Seth Rogen portrays Allen the Alien, a delegate from the Coalition of Planets. Rogen, an actor, writer, director, and producer, is renowned for his roles in comedic films such as “Knocked Up,” “Superbad,” “Pineapple Express,” and “Neighbors.”

What Makes Invincible So Special?

Invincible isn’t afraid to get dark and gritty. It explores the psychological toll of violence and the complexities of morality in a way that few superhero shows do. It also tackles mature themes like family, relationships, trauma, and the burden of responsibility.

The animation style is another highlight. It’s a beautiful blend of classic superhero aesthetics with a modern edge, and the action sequences are absolutely breathtaking. The show might have graphic violence, but it’s there to emphasize the stakes and the consequences of Mark’s actions.

Invincible is a must-watch for any fan of superhero stories, animation, or just good television in general. It’s a show that will stay with you long after you finish watching, leaving you questioning everything you thought you knew about heroes and villains.
