Arne Slot, the current manager of Feyenoord, has confirmed his desire to succeed Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool. Slot, who led Feyenoord to their 16th Eredivisie title and a KNVB Cup victory in the 2022-23 season, is confident that an agreement will be reached between the two clubs.

Slot described himself as being ‘in the waiting room’ regarding the progress of a potential deal.

Liverpool has been searching for a new manager since Klopp announced that this would be his final season at Anfield. While former midfielder Xabi Alonso and Sporting CP’s Ruben Amorim were linked with the post, they remain committed to Bayer Leverkusen and Sporting CP, respectively.

Speaking before Thursday night’s match at Go Ahead Eagles, Arne Slot expressed his desire to join Liverpool, stating,

The only thing I can say about it is that the clubs are in negotiations – and then you sit in the waiting room and wait for what will come out. It seems clear to me that I would like to go to Liverpool. Now, I am waiting to see whether the clubs reach an agreement. I have every confidence in that.

The clubs have to do their job, and then I am waiting, and as the ‘main character’, I have to respect that. It will undoubtedly become clear in the coming days. It’s no secret that I want to go to Liverpool.

Slot, known for his high-octane, possession-based approach, has achieved a 64.4% win ratio from 146 games in charge of Feyenoord, with the team scoring an average of 2.2 goals per game. Despite these impressive statistics, Feyenoord appears set to lose their Eredivisie crown to PSV this season.

The Dutch coach, who has previously been linked with Tottenham and Leeds United, eagerly awaits the ongoing negotiations’ outcome. This move could mark a new chapter in Liverpool’s management and the Premier League if successful.

Liverpool have not yet struck a deal with Feyenoord, but sources suggested the Dutch club were looking for close to £10m.

The Liverpool captain, Virgil van Dijk, has already endorsed the credentials of his fellow Dutchman, saying: “I think Arne Slot is perhaps one of the better Dutch coaches at this moment. I think his way of playing and his philosophy that he could be a Liverpool coach.”
