Dave Bautista is having one of the most successful seasons of his career. He’s just finished his turn as the hilarious brute Drax the Destroyer in Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3,” and he’ll be repeating his Glossu Rabban character in the sci-fi epic “Dune: Part 2” later this year. He is now appearing in M. Night Shyamalan’s newest thriller, “Knock at the Cabin,” in cinemas.
The former WWE Champion is looking to bring his strength to a new role: Marcus Fenix in Netflix’s upcoming Gears of War movie. In an interview, Bautista recently confirmed his wish to appear in Netflix’s Gears of War film. The professional wrestler has been campaigning for a role in the film for several years, even before the Netflix production was revealed. Bautista’s enthusiasm for Gears of War led him to turn down a role in the Fast & Furious trilogy so that he could sell a cinematic version of the game to Warner Bros., but the company was uninterested. Regarding the Netflix adaptation, Bautista believes he can add a lot of passion to iconic military hero Marcus Fenix.
The former WWE World Heavyweight Champion stated, “I really hope they will,” he said. “It’s a part that I’ve sought after for years, and I feel like I could bring a lot of heart to Marcus Fenix. I really would. I think I would do that part justice. I feel confident in it, so hopefully, it’ll come my way, and we’ll be having this conversation in a different way sometimes. Cliff Bleszinski, the creator of the Gears of War video game franchise, has stated that he would want to see popular actor Dave Bautista feature in the future Netflix film based on the video game series.

Since the late 2000s, Microsoft’s exclusive tent pole property has been the Gears of War video game franchise. Gears of War features five mainline titles and three offshoot games since its debut in 2006. Marcus Fenix, a soldier, and former war hero in the Coalition of Ordered Governments, is the main character in the games. He and his squad have fought large-scale battles on the planet Sera against swarms of reptile invaders known as the Locust Horde. Netflix has revealed plans for a Gears of War film and an adult animated series.
It’s no surprise that Netflix is the company launching Gears of War. Scott Stubler bought the rights to develop a film based on the subject for Universal in 2013. Unfortunately, the picture was never completed owing to artistic disputes and a slew of additional roadblocks that the company and artists had to overcome. Stubler didn’t get it done the first time, but it appears as he will now.
Dave Bautista’s previous roles have shown that he’s more than capable of bringing both physical and emotional depth to his characters. In Guardians of the Galaxy, he brought humor and heart to Drax’s role, and to understand his character better; watch all parts of “Guardians of the Galaxy” online. In his recent film “My Spy,” he showed that he could bring a softer side to his tough-guy image. With Gears of War, Bautista has the opportunity to combine his strengths and bring a new level of gravitas to the role of Marcus Fenix.
Dave Bautista would be an excellent pick for Marcus in an ideal world. He is seemingly perfect for the part since he has a nearly similar appearance to the role. Bautista has also demonstrated that he is a highly skilled actor capable of handling various emotions with depth and comedy. Terry Crews has also shown interest in appearing in the film, and the pairing of Bautista and Crews in Gears of War seems fantastic.
