Creator Bill Lawrence Reveals Plans for New "Scrubs" Project with Original cast

Scrubs fans can finally relax as the show’s creator Bill Lawrence has announced that a reunion project is in the works. In a recent interview with Variety, Lawrence revealed that he has already started working on the project and believes that it is “inevitable.”

It’s hard to believe that it’s been over a decade since the beloved medical drama Scrubs aired its final episode, yet the show continues to attract new viewers and retain its fan base. Lawrence acknowledged that there is a strong desire among devoted fans for a follow-up story and that those involved in the show’s nine-season run are also keen on it. While he is currently occupied with promoting his co-created projects, Ted Lasso and Shrinking, Lawrence seems to be committed to making the Scrubs reunion a reality.

The show ran for nine seasons, with the first seven running on NBC. It was about to get canceled after the seventh season, but ABC saved it by airing the last two seasons. There has been talk of a Scrubs revival for years and as reboots and reunions become increasingly popular in the television industry, many are left wondering if Scrubs will receive the same treatment. Creator Bill Lawrence believes it’s only a matter of time before a reunion occurs.

Even though the Scrubs cast have been extremely busy since the end of the show, they do occasionally hang out or even come together for enjoyable endeavors. For instance, former cast members of the series and close friends in real life Zach Braff and Donald Faison teamed up for a recent Super Bowl commercial starring John Travolta. In an interview with Variety, Bill Lawrence joked about how the cast’s friendship might affect a possible reunion:

“I think it’s inevitable that it happens. The joke of it with us is the first time that six months go by that we don’t hang out, we’ll end up doing a Scrubs reunion.”

Since the show is still so well-liked and the stars are still clearly close, it seems only natural that there would eventually be some type of sequel. This planned output is still not guaranteed, though. Bill Lawrence, however, seems to be maintaining optimism despite this: “I hope to bring it back around. That’s part of the infectious vibe of some of our shows — that people end up sincerely enjoying each other and hanging out anyway.”

If a Scrubs reunion occurs, it might be like the Friends reunion and include special interviews and entertaining show-related activities. However, it’s most likely that the majority would favor a movie of some sort or even an additional season. In a recent interview, Lawrence confirmed that a Scrubs reunion movie is in the works and that Zach Braff and other original cast members will be involved. He also hinted that the film will tie up loose ends from the series finale.

Fans have been eagerly anticipating a Scrubs reunion for years, and Lawrence’s announcement has only fueled their excitement. While details about the reunion project are still scarce, fans can rest assured that their favorite characters will soon be back on the big screen.

As these talks of a Scrubs comeback continue, those who want to catch up on the series can stream it on Hulu. And if you live outside of the USA, here’s how you can watch the show on Hulu.
