Hulu’s Horror ‘Clock’ Trailer Unveils an Intense Ride With Time-Jumps and Psychological Thrills

Time Jumps, Psychological Thrills: Hulu

In a world where some people choose to live without children, Hulu’s upcoming horror feature “Clock” takes a different turn. The film follows Dianna Agron’s character Ella as she enrolls in a clinical trial aimed at fixing her biological clock. However, as the trial progresses, things take a dark turn, and Ella finds herself facing a nightmare.

Set to premiere at the Overlook Film Festival, “Clock” from the 20th Digital Studio and Hulu Originals has released its official trailer ahead of its release date. The first trailer of this “timely horror feature” promises an intense ride that keeps viewers on the edge of their seats, with chilling scenes and mind-bending twists. Have a look at the trailer linked below.

The trailer for “Clock” wastes no time in highlighting the challenges that Ella faces from all sides. Initially content with her choices, her friends and family constantly question her decision to not have children, leading her to pursue a clinical trial to “fix” her biological clock. However, as the unsettling music and ticking clock indicate, the experimental treatments have unexpected and terrifying side effects on Ella’s body and mind.

Writer-director Alexis Jacknow sheds further light on the film’s plot, describing it as a film that explores the pressures of family, society and culture on women’s reproductive choices, and their consequent impact on one’s life.

Jacknow added that, “It’s about a woman in her late 30s and her desperate attempt to fix her broken biological clock. It’s about somebody who caves to the pressures of family, society, culture, and puts her career on the line to try to have children, to try to want children. She gives up her big break in her career and enrolls in this clinical trial and starts experimental medical treatments.

With a tagline that ominously reads “It’s counting down for a reason,” Clock promises to be a thrilling and thought-provoking psychological horror film.

While talking about the concept of message-based movies, Alexis Jacknow shared that utilizing the horror genre was an appropriate approach for addressing the topic. She believes that horror films are “a really great genre for getting out message-based material.”

She further explained that she “got to talk about female body autonomy in a movie that’s going to be on Hulu because it’s a horror film.” This sentiment is in line with other horror movies that center around motherhood and pregnancy, like Huesera: The Bone Woman and Baby Ruby.

Talking about one of the renowned cast members, Jacknow mentioned how Melora Hardin’s acting abilities inspired her to include the actress in the film. She stated that, “I’ve been a fan of hers forever. I remember watching her in The Office, and then I watched Transparent, and I was like, who is that playing Tammy Cashman? I looked it up, and I was like, wait a minute, that’s Melora Hardin? That was the moment I realized she could literally do anything. I loved the idea of her in this part because she has such presence and authority, but she’s also warm and grounded and can navigate this ice queen-versus-trusted mentor figure really beautifully.

While Jacknow admits to being a “scaredy-cat” in her youth, she has since become a fan of the horror genre and appreciates its ability to tackle meaningful themes.

The film’s cast includes Dianna Agron (“Shiva Baby”, “I Am Number Four”) as Ella, Jay Ali (“Carnival Row,” “Daredevil”) as her husband, Saul Rubinek (Unforgiven) as Ella’s father, and Melora Hardin (“The Office,” “Falling Skies”) as the pioneering doctor in charge of Ella’s treatment.

Clock, produced by 20th Digital Studio and executive produced by Jenna Cavelle, David Worthen Brooks, and Arbi Pedrossian, marks Jacknow’s directorial debut. The film will premiere at the Overlook Film Festival in New Orleans on March 31 before its release on Hulu on April 28.

With its haunting trailer and talented cast and crew, “Clock” is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated horror movies of the year. With a film that challenges its audience’s perceptions of time and reality, the fans can only imagine what kind of mind-bending journey awaits them. Here’s how you could watch the Clock on Hulu outside the US.
