Renowned French actress Isabelle Huppert is set to chair the jury at the upcoming Venice Film Festival, marking another highlight in her illustrious relationship with the event.

Huppert, a familiar face on the Lido, has previously clinched the festival’s Coppa Volpi for Best Actress twice—once for “Story of Women” in 1988 and again for “La Cérémonie” in 1995, both films directed by Claude Chabrol.

With a fruitful partnership, Huppert and Chabrol made eight films together. Her connection with international film festivals extends beyond Venice; she bagged the Best Actress award at Cannes in 1978 for “Violette” and later in 2001 for her role in Michael Haneke’s “The Piano Teacher.”

In recognition of her powerful portrayal in “Gabrielle,” Venice awarded her a Special Golden Lion in 2005.

Huppert’s acclaimed career reached new heights with her first Oscar nomination in 2017 for her role in “Elle,” directed by Paul Verhoven. This role also earned her a Golden Globe and an Independent Spirit Award. The Berlin Film Festival honored her with an Honorary Golden Bear in 2022.

Venice Film Festival’s artistic director, Alberto Barbera, praised Huppert as “an immense actress” known for her demanding, curious nature and generous spirit. “She has consistently answered the call of both established and emerging directors, making her the perfect interpreter of their visions,” Barbera said.

He also noted her relentless drive and intellectual capacity, which, combined with her expansive view of cinema, ideally positioned her to lead the jury. “We are deeply thankful she has accepted this role despite her busy schedule in both film and theater,” Barbera added.

Huppert expressed deep affection for the festival, noting, “It is an honor to become a privileged spectator at this stage. More than ever, cinema represents a promise to escape, disrupt, surprise, and unite us through the diversity of our tastes and ideas.”

With her exceptional talent and insightful perspective, Isabelle Huppert is poised to guide the Venice Film Festival jury towards recognizing cinematic excellence and fostering impactful storytelling.
