Brendan Fraser Expresses Interest in Playing Rick O’Connell Again in the Mummy Follow-Up

It’s been nearly two decades since Brendan Fraser first brought Rick O’Connell to life in the 1999 blockbuster hit The Mummy. Since then, the actor has had a successful career in Hollywood, starring in various films and television shows. Fans of the Mummy franchise may be in for a treat as actor Brendan Fraser has expressed interest in reprising his role as Rick O’Connell in a follow-up film. Fraser first played the adventurous treasure hunter in the 1999 blockbuster The Mummy, which was a huge success at the box office and spawned two sequels, The Mummy Returns and The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor. While the actor did not appear in the recent reboot of the franchise starring Tom Cruise, he seems open to revisiting the character that helped launch his career.

Fraser told Deadline’s Pete Hammond during a recent interview, “Gosh, I don’t know any juicy details about it, but it’s kinda been an open-ended question for some time now,” I’m not opposed to it. I don’t know an actor who doesn’t want a job.”

“I don’t think I’ve been this famous and unsalaried at the same time in my professional life, so sign me up,” the “George of the Jungle” star continued, adding jokingly: “We’ve all got to start somewhere.”

Even though Brendan Fraser’s performance in “The Whale” is getting a lot of attention in the run-up to award season, the actor just recently said that he wouldn’t mind playing the same character in “The Mummy” again at some point in the future.

Brendan Fraser said he would welcome earning more money by participating in a remake of “The Mummy.” After regaining widespread recognition for his performance in the critically acclaimed film The Whale, the actor recently remarked that he had never been “this famous and unsalaried at the same time.” This came after the film helped bring him back into the public eye.

Fans of Fraser and the Mummy franchise have been vocal about their desire to see the actor return as Rick O’Connell, and their wishes may soon be granted. While no official plans for a follow-up film have been announced, Fraser’s willingness to return has sparked excitement among fans and could potentially lead to a new chapter in the Mummy series.

The Mummy series was rebooted with a film starring Tom Cruise that was released in 2017 named “The Mummy Reboot,” although it has been claimed that any plans for any sequels featuring Cruise have been put on hold due to the underperformance of the movie at the box office.

In the late 1990s and early 2000s, Fraser became a well-known actor largely due to his involvement in the cinematic adaptations of “The Mummy.” The actor has continued to work in the years after the incident. Still, due to a string of lower-profile assignments in recent years, some people are hailing his award-nominated part in the recently released film “The Whale” as a comeback performance.

Fraser’s role as Rick O’Connell helped establish him as a leading man in Hollywood, and he went on to star in various films, including the George of the Jungle and Journey to the Center of the Earth franchises. In recent years, Fraser has taken on more dramatic roles in television and film, earning critical acclaim for his performances in The Affair and Trust.

In addition, Fraser is working on several other projects, one of which is a historical drama titled “Killers of the Flower Moon,” directed by Martin Scorsese. He will feature Fraser, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Robert De Niro. In the movie “The Whale,” Brendan Fraser portrays an English teacher who weighs 42 stone (267 kg) and is urgently attempting to reconnect with his teenage daughter before it is too late.

Even though he has already been nominated for a Golden Globe, the actor will not be attending the presentation since he has previously accused the previous head of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association of attacking him. According to Brendan Fraser, the groping incident in 2003 caused him to experience emotional and personal distress, and because of that, he has to be out of the movie industry.

It is possible to conclude that Brendan Fraser’s return to the big screen in “The Whale” has been successful since it has generated enough hype to qualify as such, and the actor may even win an Academy Award for his role in the film.
