Hulu Pulls the Plug on Untitled Ronny Chieng Pilot About Brooklyn Nets

Hulu has announced that it will not be moving forward with the untitled Ronny Chieng comedy pilot, which was originally announced in May 2022.

The recently canceled comedy pilot, which was based on the real-life Brooklyn Nets  owner Joe Tsai, was being developed by producing partners Jake Kasdan and Melvin Mar under 20th Television. Jon Pollack and Chieng co-wrote the pilot. They also served as the executive producers alongside Melvin Mar, Jake Kasdan, and Hannah Pham. While there is no official news on the reasons for the cancellation, it is known that the project will be pitched to potential outlets by 20th TV and the producers.

Although Hulu dropped the Chieng pilot, the comedian is still in business with the streaming service as he has a series regular role in the upcoming series “Interior Chinatown.” It is a limited series based on Charles Yu’s novel of the same name and explores Asian stereotypes in Hollywood through the eyes of an aspiring actor. It starred Jimmy O. Yang as Willis Wu, caught in a police procedural seeking to get involved in the main plot, while he learns the secrets about the bizarre environment he lives in and his family’s hidden past along the way. Chieng played as Willis’s best friend, Fatty Choi, who is passionate about video games and malted beverages.

He is also a senior correspondent on “The Daily Show” and is known for co-creating and starring in the ABC Australia sitcom “Ronny Chieng: International Student.” Chieng has also appeared in other TV shows, such as “Doogie Kameāloha, M.D.” and “Young Rock,” and in movies like “Crazy Rich Asians,” “Godzilla vs. Kong,” and Marvel’s “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings,” among others.
