Hulu has recently acquired the US streaming rights to the BBC comedy-thriller series “Am I Being Unreasonable?,” starring Daisy May Cooper and Selin Hizli. The show, which has been renewed for a second season, earlier debuted on the BBC with great reviews in September and is a front-runner for the forthcoming UK TV awards season.
The comedy series is Hulu’s most recent acquisition from the UK. In the same way that Hulu previously acquired the rights to Wreck, the streaming service also has This Way Up and My Mad Fat Diary in its current repertoire. In contrast, the BBC has recently acquired a number of Hulu shows as well.
The trailer of this binge-worthy show, which was filmed in Bristol and around the West County, unveils a group of friends who, after an evening of drinking, accidentally kill someone. As they struggle to keep their secret hidden, they begin to question their own morality and the lengths they will go to in order to protect themselves. This is followed by Nic (Cooper), a mother who is trapped in a dismal marriage and mourning a loss she can’t share with anybody. She is only sustained by her son Ollie (Lenny Rush, Apple Tree House). Nevertheless, when Jen (Hizli) moves into the area, her life is filled with joy, and thanks to this sympathetic person, her secret soon begins to surface.
In an interview just before its BBC premiere, Daisy May Cooper, whose breakthrough show ‘This Country’ was remade in the U.S. by Fox and earned her widespread recognition in the UK, shared that for “Am I Being Unreasonable?”, she challenged herself to adopt a Curb Your Enthusiasm-esque style for improvising scenes. Boffola Pictures head and former BBC Comedy Controller, Shane Allen, have hailed Cooper as “one of the most tantalizing and visionary comedic voices of her generation.”
