Colin Kaepernick, the former NFL quarterback who made headlines for kneeling during the national anthem to protest police brutality, took over a new cause in his latest project, “Killing County.” The docuseries shed light on the deadly police corruption in a small California town. Here’s how you could stream the series Killing County on Hulu.
The Michaela Dowd-directed sequence, which was executive produced by Colin Kaepernick and Robe Imbriano and narrated by André Holland, revolves around the police force of Bakersfield, California, and explores the death of Jorge Ramirez in 2013. The incident occurred after a shootout involving multiple police officers in a hotel parking area.
The official trailer for the Hulu Original series debuted on January 26th, with its streaming on February 3rd. In the preview, a woman was heard saying, “I knew the homicide rate in Bakersfield was high. I didn’t really know what that meant until I got here. “ The family of Jorge Ramirez, who was killed by police in Bakersfield, talked about their decision to report the incident to the authorities, leading to a wider effort in the community to address the high number of shootings involving police officers in the town.
The show featured interviews with former police officers, including one who was involved in illegal drug operations, and other families affected by police shootings, as well as experts who delved into the allegations of corruption and cover-ups that had plagued the town. The docuseries also examined how the community had pushed back against these issues through protests and calls for accountability. One family member of Ramirez asked, “Who holds these people accountable?”
“They’re not supposed to be judge, jury and executioner,” stated another woman.

Kaepernick called it “one of the most powerful projects I’ve been involved with.”
It’s clear that Kaepernick is committed to using his platform to bring attention to issues of police brutality and corruption, and “Killing County” has just become the latest example of his dedication to social justice.
