Kim Kardashian is joining the Ryan Murphy Repertory Company after landing a role in the upcoming season 12 of FX’s American Horror Story, titled Delicate.

The multi-talented celebrity, known for her reality show, entrepreneurship, podcasting, and pop culture influence, has signed on to play a character created specifically for her. “Kim is among the biggest and brightest television stars in the world and we are thrilled to welcome her to the AHS family,” said AHS co-creator Murphy in a statement. “Emma and I are excited about collaborating with this true force in the culture. Halley Feiffer has written a fun, stylish, and ultimately terrifying role, especially for Kim, and this season is ambitious and unlike anything we have ever done.”

Murphy and Kardashian share a close friendship and the producer was reportedly impressed with Kardashian’s well-received hosting gig on Saturday Night Live in 2021. This led to discussions between the two about crafting a role for her in a scripted TV show. They had been in talks since last summer, working to create a unique character tailored to Kardashian’s strengths.

Details about the roles played by Kardashian and Emma Roberts in the upcoming season of American Horror Story are being kept tightly under wraps.

American Horror Story is an anthology horror television series that debuted on FX in 2011. Each season of the show tells a standalone story, featuring a different set of characters, settings, and themes, but with a consistent core cast of actors who often portray different roles across seasons.

The first season, “Murder House,” centers around the Harmon family, who move into a haunted mansion in Los Angeles. As they attempt to rebuild their fractured family, they become entangled in the dark secrets of the house’s past and the vengeful spirits that haunt it.

Subsequent seasons have explored other horror subgenres, including an asylum in the 1960s, a coven of witches in New Orleans, a freak show in 1950s Florida, a hotel with a dark history, a cult, an apocalypse, and a summer camp with a bloody past.

The show has delved into social commentary on topics such as race, gender, sexuality, and mental illness, while also pushing the boundaries of what is acceptable for network television with its graphic violence, sexual content, and disturbing imagery.

In a departure from past seasons, the forthcoming installment of American Horror Story offers fans a glimpse of what’s to come. For the first time in the anthology’s history, the series is drawing inspiration from a source material.

The upcoming season is based, in part, on Danielle Valentine’s soon-to-be-published novel, Delicate Condition. The book, set to be released by Sourcebooks Landmark in August, is a gripping thriller that follows a woman’s journey as she becomes convinced that a malevolent force is determined to prevent her from having a successful pregnancy. A cover blurb from author Andrea Bartz describes Delicate Condition as “the feminist update to Rosemary’s Baby we all needed.”

While Kim Kardashian has dabbled in acting in the past, her appearance in the forthcoming season of the show will be her most prominent role to date. On the other hand, American Horror Story has established using A-list stunt casting as a standard for the series. The show has continuously drawn big-name performers from its inaugural season, which starred Jessica Lange. Significantly, Lady Gaga was cast in season five despite her lack of prior acting experience outside of her own music videos. Gaga’s appearance on the show, in fact, was the start of her illustrious acting career.

Kardashian’s appearance on American Horror Story will also double down on her relationship with Disney, which also houses her family’s new reality show The Kardashians at Hulu. The streaming platform is also the digital home for the programming slate of FX, a Disney subsidiary.

After that, she returned for the AHS seasons “Freak Show,” “Cult,” “Apocalypse” and 1984.” However, she has not been on the show for the past 4 seasons. Feiffer is running the show this year, having previously been one of the writers for “Dear Edward”, “Roar”, “Kidding” and Murphy’s series “Impeachment: American Crime Story”.

Murphy, co-creator Brad Falchuk, Feiffer, Alexis Martin Woodall, and Scott Robertson will executive produce the upcoming season of AHS, which will begin filming in New York City later this month. Murphy and FX are likely to reveal a specific date for the summer launch in June. Once the show is out, here’s how you can watch it on Hulu outside US.
