Anna Konkle Experiences Motherhood Challenges While Filming ‘The Drop’

1. Anna Konkle Goes Deep in

Anna Konkle is a gifted actor and writer who has been making waves in the entertainment business. Konkle has been praised for her remarkable performances, sharp writing, and dedication to diversity and inclusion in her work. Perhaps she is most recognized for her part in the critically acclaimed comedy series “Pen15.” The hit comedy series, co-created by Maya Erskine and Anna Konkle, has just been nominated for its first Emmy award.

Anna Konkle loved the idea of shooting her next project in a remote jungle in Mexico three months after giving birth to her first child and not long after completing the Emmy-nominated series “PEN15.” Pen15 Season 2 Part 2 is available to watch on Hulu, but if you’re living where Hulu is not officially launched, watch it here.

“You had heard of casts going to these beautiful places, and they had to be quarantined, and so they would just stay in these amazing hotels and film there,” she said.

Konkle did not have a pleasant time while filming her newest movie, “The Drop,” which made its world debut on Hulu. The limited access to food and water and the poor cell reception was the least of the nursing mother’s concerns. After the shoot, she required intravenous fluids to be given to her since she had become dehydrated.

For those not able to access Hulu, here is how you can watch the movie from anywhere outside the US.

About her experience, Anna said, “Everyone got horrific diarrhea, and I stopped making milk, so I would have to get the IV while I pumped to make milk because I was so dehydrated.” “Ultimately, she said she was glad to work on the movie and not only because her daughter “adapted wonderfully and was very fat by the end of filming.”

“I loved the idea of motherhood being not saccharine but R-rated and funny. And that just felt exciting to be a part of that, I think, especially grappling with the stage that I was at,” she said.

The story of Lex (Konkle) and Mani (Jermaine Fowler), a happily married couple who are trying to have a family, is what “The Drop” is all about, and Jay Duplass serves as an executive producer. However, their relationship is tested in the movie when Lex embarrassingly drops their mutual friends’ baby in front of everyone as they go to the destination wedding.

When Konkle was still getting used to her new role as a mother, she found the film’s straightforward examination of parenting and the blunders that inevitably come with it to be an enlightening and helpful lesson.

“The amount of criticism that I find myself having, scrutinizing myself, comparing myself to other people and, you know, they’re vacationing with their child, or they’re teaching them science or whatever,” she said. “I just loved in the film that it was kind of like, s—- happens, no one’s perfect, and you grapple with that, and you keep going.”

“PEN15,” a cringe-filled ode to seventh grade, set in the early 2000s that Konkle and her best friend Maya Erskine starred in and co-created, has gained appreciation from the reviewing community. Both she and Erskine studied experimental theatre in college where they first met. While Maya has varying interests, Konkle views comedy as a natural, if unexpected, step in her professional development.

“There is something in a comedy of laughing at the darkest moments and your own vulnerability that feels like you can go farther than drama,” she said. “I didn’t think I’d end up in comedy. I was like so serious. But it’s the perfect home. I feel so grateful that that’s where I kind of land.”
