The talented and Oscar-nominated American actress, Melissa McCarthy, is set to receive a prestigious honor at the largest gathering of movie theater owners, CinemaCon in Las Vegas on April 27, 2023. The location for the ceremony is set to be inside The Colosseum at Caesars Palace—hosted by the official presenting sponsor, The Coca-Cola Company.

McCarthy will receive the Cinema Vérité Award 2023, recognizing her contributions to the film industry. This recognition comes ahead of her next highly anticipated role as Ursula in Walt Disney Studios’ upcoming live-action adaptation of ‘The Little Mermaid.’

“Melissa McCarthy has had audiences around the world howling in the theaters with such unforgettable performances in films like ‘Bridesmaids,’ ‘The Heat’ and ‘Spy’ and has left them on the edge of their seats with her memorable roles in ‘Can You Ever Forgive Me?’, and ‘St. Vincent’ to name just a few,” Mitch Neuhauser, the managing director of CinemaCon, praised Melissa McCarthy for her performances to date.

Her upcoming turn in the iconic role of Ursula is sure to entertain audiences across the globe and we couldn’t be more honored to present her with this year’s CinemaCon Cinema Vérité Award.” Mitch Neuhauser further added.

In addition to Melissa McCarthy, several other individuals and groups will be honored at the NATO Big Screen Achievement Awards ceremony between April 24-27, 2023.

The NATO Spirit of the Industry Award will be presented to Christopher Nolan and Emma Thomas of Oppenheimer. The cast of Lionsgate’s ‘Joy Ride’ will receive the Comedy Ensemble of the Year Award. Zendaya from the ‘Dune’ franchise has been selected to receive the Star of the Year Award, and Anthony Ramos and Dominique Fishback from ‘Transformers: Rise of the Beast’ will receive the Rising Stars of the Year Award.

In the film The Little Mermaid, McCarthy is starred as the iconic sea witch, Ursula, alongside an all-star cast, including Jonah Hauer-King as Prince Eric, Halle Bailey as Ariel, Daveed Diggs as Sebastian, Jacob Tremblay as Flounder, Awkwafina as Scuttle, and Javier Bardem as King Triton. The live-action adaptation features music by Alan Menken and lyrics by Howard Ashman, as well as new lyrics by Lin-Manuel Miranda.

Directed by Rob Marshall, American film director, best known for directing the film version of the Broadway musical Chicago),‘The Little Mermaid’ is set to be released on May 26th, 2023, and promises to be a visual as well as a musical treat for audiences of all ages.

McCarthy’s next project is Richard Curtis’ untitled New York Christmas comedy for Peacock, where she will be co-starring with Paapa Essiedu from ‘I May Destroy You.’
