Peaky Blinders’ Star Paul Anderson Set For WWII Action Movie ‘Immortal

Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions, (SPWA), has acquired the global rights for an upcoming film about World War II. However, the rights in Nordic countries are held by Nordisk Film.

The largely popular Peaky Blinders actor, Paul Anderson who plays the charismatic character of Arthur Shelby will be in an important role in this action film, Immortal.

The Rare Exports and Big Game filmmaker, Jalmari Helander will be directing the upcoming film. The film is set to be shot in Lapland which is in Finland. It is expected that production will begin in the month of September.

As per Deadline, the story of the film revolves around a lone soldier, Aatami, in 1945 during World War II. Aatami’s role will be played by Jorma Tommila who has collaborated with the Finnish director, Helander in many projects for a long time.

The crux of the story is that this soldier finds a good amount of gold in the wild jungle of Lapland. As he takes the loot ad heads to the city, he encounters Nazi soldiers who are headed by a blood-thirsty SS officer played by Paul Anderson. The SS officers were considered an elite Nazi force with immense skill and training for war.

Now, for the audience, it will be an epic action scenario as a single soldier battles his way out of these highly trained Nazi soldiers while also ensuring he takes his loot with him!

The executive producers for the movie are, Antonio Salas, Mike Goodridge and Gregory Ouanhon. While Petri Jokiranta will be producing the movie via Subzero Film Entertainment, he has also previously worked in two projects with Helander.

It will be supported by Business Finland – Audiovisual Production Incentive, Finnish Film Foundation and MTV Cmore. The movie will mainly be in English along with a few Finnish dialogues and slang to give the real look and feel of the story.

Coming back to Paul Anderson’s character and talent, the actor is famous for The Revenant, which won an Oscar. Furthermore, his other appearances include Hostiles by Scott Cooper, In The Heart Of The Sea by Ron Howard and Yann Demange’s 2014 film ’71. CAA represents Paul, while the WME represents Helandar.

Lately, he has also finished a film by Guillermo Del Toro called, “Nightmare Alley” starring opposite to Hollywood A-listers such as Bradley Cooper, Rooney Mara and Cate Blanchett.

The Finnish director, Helander spoke about the film stating:

To make an action film in Finland has been a dream of mine since I was 10 years old. Finally, I am in a situation where I can fulfill my dream and make an epic, action-packed survival story that takes place in World War II.

Helander’s first film Rare Exports was released back in 2010 and was hugely popular, winning multiple awards at Locarno, Brussels, Sitges and other countries. His second film, the Samuel L. Jackson, Jim Broadbent, Felicity Huffman and Ray Stevenson starrer, Big Game was released in 2014 and was a global hit!
