Empathy and Compassion Reflecting in Hulu’s ‘Tiny Beautiful Things’: Uncertainty About Season 2

Empathy and compassion take center stage in Hulu

Hulu’s latest comedy-drama series, “Tiny Beautiful Things”, is an adaptation of the best-selling book collection by Cheryl Strayed.

The show follows the story of Clare, a struggling writer portrayed by Kathryn Hahn, who is grappling with the aftermath of her mother’s untimely death. She’s dealing with personal and family issues, and a friend suggests she take over an advice column called “Dear Sugar” to reignite her writing passion.

Clare accepts the unpaid gig and discovers that she’s not alone in her struggles. As she assists others with their problems, she heals herself and finds solutions for her family’s challenges. Each episode of Tiny Beautiful Things delves into a pivotal moment in Clare’s healing journey.

Liz Tigelaar, the creator and executive producer of the show, discussed the significance of the series’ message. She emphasized that one of the essential takeaways from the show is how aiding others can aid one’s personal development.

She shared her thoughts, saying that, “I think that’s so inherent in Cheryl’s work. I think it’s a really profound thing. It’s the same you feel almost better giving a gift than giving one. I think that in trying to help somebody else the by-product, the result of it, even unintentionally is that you end up helping yourself. So, I don’t think someone necessarily sets out to save themselves. That generous act of probably you want and the healing you want, when you decide to give that out it comes back to you multiplied.”

In the Season 1 finale, Clare (Kathryn Hahn) finally resolved things with her daughter Rae. However, Cheryl Strayed expressed uncertainty about whether or not the Pierce family could repair their relationship and move on from the past that haunts Clare in the present. She therefore, believes that there is a great deal of potential for Season 2 to explore the relationships and conflicts further.

The Tiny Beautiful Things season finale left viewers wondering about Clare’s future. The question on everyone’s mind is whether there will be a Season 2 to answer all of their unanswered questions.

Cheryl Strayed, the author of the book and the executive producer, expressed her excitement for continuing the show. “We would love to keep going,” she said. However, she acknowledged that there are “no conversations” regarding a second season, and they are “hoping for the best.” She added that there are many more columns and opportunities for stories that the book offers.

She shared her opinion, saying that, “There could be a very interesting story if they find forgiveness and mend their relationship. And there could also be a really interesting story if they don’t do that, you know, if Clare actually makes a clearer line between her and them and between that past.

If a Season 2 is ordered, Strayed believes that the Pierce family would take the viewers to “the interesting places that are reflective of real life and the real struggles that people have,” regardless of the direction their story takes.
