Pamela Anderson, the former Baywatch star, has expressed her disapproval of Hulu’s series Pam & Tommy, which is based on her life and her marriage to Tommy Lee. The actress shared her thoughts on the series, calling the directors of the show “assholes” and referred to it as “salt on the wound” in an interview.
The release of the dark comedy “ Pam & Tommy” which was put out by the streaming service in 2022, centered on the infamous leaked sex tape involving Anderson and her former husband Tommy Lee. The mini-series, featuring Lily James as Anderson and Sebastian Stan as Tommy Lee, was produced without Anderson’s approval, and she recently shared her thoughts on how the release of the show affected her.
While speaking to Variety about her feelings towards the series, she shared how she felt “disappointed” in the way her life was depicted in the series. She expressed her frustration with the series, saying that the directors of the show were taking advantage of her life story for their own gain. While talking about the misleading portrayal of her ex-husband, she stated, “I don’t think he was portrayed kindly. I just know that I refuse to watch it. You still owe me a public apology.”
She also expressed her concerns about the impact that the show could have on her children, who she feels are too young to understand the implications of their parents’ life being played out on screen. While conversing with Variety, she said, “It was shocking. Tommy probably thought it was funny. I remember Tommy writing me a note saying, ‘Don’t let this hurt you like it did the first time,’ because he had heard through the kids that I was kind of struggling with the idea of bringing this all up again.”
Anderson also revealed that she has no intention of watching the series, as she feels it would be too hurtful to relive her past experiences.
Anderson said although she has no ill will towards Lily James, who portrayed her in the Hulu series Pam & Tommy, the billboard poster of Pam & Tommy made Lily and co-star Sebastian Stan look “like a Halloween costume”.
She further explained her stance saying, “I think it’s hard to play somebody when you don’t know the whole picture. I said to Netflix, ‘I’d love to invite Lily to the premiere of the movie. I’ve got nothing against Lily James. I think that she’s a beautiful girl and she was just doing the job. But the idea of the whole thing happening was just really crushing for me.”
Despite this, she holds no grudges and would even like to extend an invitation to James for the premiere of her documentary, Pamela, A Love Story.
Regardless of Anderson’s objections, the Pam & Tommy series was aired on Hulu, with Lily James and Sebastian Stan playing the lead roles. The series unveiled a closer look at the couple’s tumultuous relationship and the events that led to their divorce.
