Why did Alexa Nikolas refuse to continue working on Zoey 101? She is now 30 and would hardly remember about it. Recently, on the set of Zoey 101, she claimed that she was being manipulated by Britney Spears: The older sister of her co-star Jamie Lynn Spears, who played ‘Zoey’ on the program.
Christy Carlson Romano, who herself co-starred on Disney’s Even Stevens as a kid, interviewed the former child actor for her “Vulnerable Podcast,” and the former child star said that the day in question occurred on the final day of production for Season 2. Although the episode was broadcast in May of 2006, the program continued for a total of four seasons without Nikolas.
Nikolas briefed Romano that the talent coordinator had arrived to pull her out of her trailer, where she was with her mother, and take her for makeup. Instead, he informed her that Spears, who, indeed, Nikolas had castigated of bullying her, and Spears’s older sister, who was an adolescent and now famous, wanted to speak with her.
Britney, whom she assumed would step in and arbitrate between the two females, each claiming the other bullied them, ended up shouting at Nikolas while Jamie Lynn hid. The adult who was meant to be there for Nikolas has vanished.
After hearing about all that Britney was going through then, Nikolas revealed to Romano that she had some pity for her. Nikolas even paused for a little period in the middle of relaying the event in order to point the finger of responsibility for the tragedy towards the network for being unable to protect her.
“And Britney is an amazing person. She has apologized to me personally,” she said. “Actually, Britney Spears apologized, but Nickelodeon hasn’t. Isn’t that funny? Yeah, Britney Spears apologized, and not Nickelodeon.”
Nikolas continued saying:
“It wasn’t OK, because I was a 12, 13-year-old. But in retrospect, knowing the dynamic that was in place for her, I think, of course, that’s what ended up happening,” Nikolas said. “And I think, like, oh my god, poor Britney. She is in a horrible situation there. And she was like eight months pregnant, so she was hormonal, too. And I remember she was rubbing her belly while she was yelling, and it was like she was trying to calm herself. And you could just tell, it was very unhinged in a way that felt… like someone was manipulating her.”
During the #FreeBritney era, Spears openly criticized her family for taking advantage of her and even planning the legal guardianship that she was unwillingly put under from 2008 to November 2021.

Britney Spears gave the impression in January that she was on Nikolas’s side when she tweeted that Jamie Lynn had lied about several things in her book, Things I Should Have Said.
Britney’s post was directed at Jamie Lynn. She commented, “The nerve of you to sell a book now and talk s***,” she wrote, “but your f****** lying just like you lied about Alexa Nikolas !!!!”

Since then, Nikolas has made it her goal to make sure that other young performers have more protection than she had. Just this year, she launched an organization for survivors of sexual abuse called Eat Predators. They’ve gotten people’s attention by holding demonstrations in public areas including in front of Nickelodeon, where she claims she was mistreated for a number of years.
